AN INNOVATIVE FUTURE - How 100 Years of Innovation Can Prepare Us for Tomorrow's Challenges [Joint Centenary Celebration]

We are not alone in celebrating our Centenary Year in 2015. The British Chamber Shanghai is proud to acknowledge the same milestone for our member company, Ricardo. Originally founded in 1915 by Sir Harry Ricardo, this company has been the driving force behind engine design in the automotive industry. Their company activities cover a range of market sectors including passenger car, commercial vehicle, rail, defence, motorsport, motorcycle, off-highway, marine, clean energy and power generation and government.

Together with AmCham Shanghai, we are pleased to invite Ricardo’s Chairman, Terry Morgan CBE, and COO, Mark Garrett, to share the story of the company’s 100 years of innovation and technological development.

This Centenary event will provide an insight into what has made Ricardo plc an important contributor to the ongoing evolution of transportation sector. There will be an introduction to the life and innovative characteristics of the man who started it all, Ricardo’s Founder, Sir Harry Ricardo, as well as a discussion on how future innovation, supported by a range of new skill sets for engineers, will be required to meet the challenges of the next century.

The guest speakers will also address the environmental and technological challenges China faces today and the potential solutions which technology may provide. It will conclude with a longer term vision for mobility, energy systems and sustainability, in an increasingly environmentally responsible and connected world.

About Ricardo
At the beginning of the last century, the motor car was in its infancy and a range of propulsion systems were being developed, from steam engines to battery electric and internal combustion engines.

In the hundred years since the company known today as Ricardo plc was formed by Sir Harry Ricardo, many significant industrial and technological innovations have been created and developed. These have been the cornerstone of the sophisticated mobility and energy systems we now enjoy.

In recent decades, as priorities have shifted, environmental impact, safety, sustainability and efficient use of scarce resources have become an ever increasing focus. In order to face this current challenges, Ricardo plc is researching and developing a range of propulsion systems to meet their environmental and societal needs whilst continuing to provide products for its customers. Again, it is unclear which technology will be the ultimate winner.
