HONG KONG, July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) announced the start of registrations for the sixth SHKP Vertical Run for Charity today with the 'Race to Hong Kong ICC' and 'Race to Shanghai IFC' which will be held on 3 Dec and 22 Oct respectively. 'Race to Hong Kong ICC' will again be the last event of this year's Vertical World Circuit.  The finale will bring elite runners from all over the world to compete at Hong Kong's tallest building -- International Commerce Centre -- vying for the world championship. The events will follow SHKP's ideals of 'Building Homes with Heart' and sport for charity with all proceeds from the 'Race to Hong Kong ICC' going to The Community Chest of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Council of Social Service helping disadvantaged children and youth and proceeds from the Race to Shanghai IFC going to the Shanghai Children's Health Foundation for providing treatment to child patient from low-income patients.

SHKP Executive Director and Deputy Managing Director Victor Lui, Executive Director Christopher Kwok and 'Race to Hong Kong ICC' Organizing Committee Co-chair Edward Cheung hosted the announcement ceremony at the sky100 Hong Kong Observation Deck today. Guests included International Skyrunning Federation President Marino Giacometti, CUHK Orthopaedics & Traumatology Professor Patrick Yung, CUHK Centre for Nutritional Studies Manager Professor Mandy Sea, 2016 Vertical World Circuit elite runner Eric Yeung, disabled runner Kelvin Kwong and representative from Tuen Mun Children and Juvenile Home.

Victor Lui said: "SHKP believes in 'Building Homes with Heart' and promoting healthy, sustainable lifestyles. The 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity' is in its sixth year and 'Race to Hong Kong ICC' will take up to 2,000 participants this year.  We hope that it encourages more people to do sport and at the same time help the needy in the spirit of exercise for good.  Past 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity' had raised over HK$30 million for child and youth services. We will also have a series of community activities to teach people about vertical running and encourage sport for charity."

Vertical Running for All

The race this year will include 'Elite', 'Individual', 'Team Relay', and 'Fun Climb'. 'Team Relay' will continue to have 'Corporate' and 'Open' categories, while 'Students' category is further divided into Secondary and Tertiary students, bringing more energy to the race with young participation.  There will also be 'Fun Climb 82' and 'Fun Climb 21' so participants aged 10 and up can choose to run 82 or 21 floors according to their ability without pressure so the entire family can have a good time.

Chance for Top Runners to Race Overseas -- Early Bird Special

SHKP encourages participation from local enthusiasts and supports elite local runners to race internationally. The men's and women's winners this year will again be sponsored in Vertical World Circuit races next year, and there will be an early bird discount for 'Individual', 'Team Relay' and 'Fun Climb' registrations by 4 August to encourage early preparation.

Various Community activities -- Professional Training for Runners

SHKP spreads the positive message of exercise for good in the community and will stage activities like 'Step-Up for Fitness' and 'Step-Up for Health' in its residential estates encouraging people to do sport for charity. There will additionally be flash mobs to gear up the city for vertical running, Race to Hong Kong ICC - Family Fitness Fun in shopping malls encouraging parents and children in sport and sessions offering comprehensive, effective training to prepare participants for the races.

Race to Shanghai IFC -- Raising money for young patients

'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity -- The Race to Shanghai IFC' will be on 22 October 2017 when runners will challenge 1,460 steps at Shanghai IFC in the spirit of 'Building Homes with Heart' and Exercise for Good.
