BANDUNG, Indonesia, Nov. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Bio Farma, a state-owned vaccine manufacturer in Indonesia, has been selected by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to host an Islamic country vaccine production workshop in Bandung from November 15-18, 2016.
The workshop is attended by more than 30 OIC member countries such as Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Malaysia, Iran, Egypt and Bangladesh.
According to Mr. Rahman, Corporate Secretary of Bio Farma, "In order to make the workshop successful, we will work together with other stakeholders, including the Ministry of State Secretary as a member of National Coordination Team for South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC), the Ministry of Health, the National Agency for Drug & Food Control of Indonesia (NADFC), the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI), the World Health Organization and Bio Farma as speakers.
"This vaccine production workshop will also have a discussion on the methods required to produce safe, quality and efficacious vaccines," said Mr. Rahman.
A number of sessions are held to discuss issues related to Islamic countries' self-reliance on vaccine production and the potential of Indonesian biodiversity. In addition, at the end of the event, field visits will be conducted to allow participants to see directly the production process, research and development, and Bio Farma's vaccine production facilities.
Rika Kiswardani, Head of Bureau of Technical Cooperation said, "The Ministry of State Secretary has given its support to this program and through Indonesia's capacity in promoting vaccine production to OIC countries, it is expected that Indonesia's vaccine industry will be able to be mass-marketed around the world, helping drive the development of Islamic countries.
"This workshop is expected to generate ideas for the transformation and establishment of Islamic countries' self-reliance in producing vaccines and their effective use for human health as Indonesia is mandated to bear the responsibility as a center of excellence in vaccine production and this role has been long performed by Bio Farma," she said.
Bio Farma has been trusted to host the workshop for its expertise and long-standing experience in producing vaccines for more than 126 years. Many Bio Farma products have World Health Organization (WHO) pre-qualification and are procured by United Nations agencies for use globally.
