Building surveyors have continually made constructive contribution and played an important role in participation of works of New Development, A&A and Conversion, Maintenance and Rehabilitation of existing buildings. Further to the success of Building Surveyor Awards 2015, the Building Surveying Division is pleased to hold BSA 2017 for the second year again. Three special awards - Sustainability Award, Value Enhancement Award and Idea & Approach Award were introduced this year to commend preeminent building projects for outstanding performance in terms of sustainability, economic and social values, and idea, technology and / or innovation.

"The significance of the event (BSA 2017) goes beyond merely rewarding those good performances. Through careful deliberation of various entries of the awards, we have a better understanding of those issues that our practitioners are facing." Ir HON Chi-keung, JP, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Development Bureau, HKSAR Government said.

"BSA 2017 plays a vital role in showcasing the distinguished practices in Building Surveying by recognising practitioners' commitment and achievement. It is also a means to encourage members to actively observe the needs of surrounding buildings and tackle problems with appropriate strategies." said Sr Thomas HO Kwok-kwan, President of the HKIS. "BSA 2017 creates another high-profile arena for surveyors to demonstrate their expertise and techniques in various categories." Sr Daniel CHANG Wai-ip, Chairman of the HKIS BSD also agreed.

The competition opened from October 2016 to February 2017, accepting nominations submitted by client / client's representative or consultants with the involvement of building surveyors in 3 categories including New Development, A&A and Conversion, and Maintenance and Rehabilitation. Our jury panels, constituted of veterans from academics and renowned industry professionals, assessed the 19 finalist projects according to six criteria which include Expertise of Building Surveyors, Design, Project Management, Sustainability, Value Management and Innovative Idea and Approach. A Grand Award, Special Awards, and Winner and Merit Award(s) of each category have been granted in BSA 2017.

"The great success of the Awards not only reflects in the high quality of nominees, but also in the profile of our renowned Jury Panel - 12 professionals in the building industry ranging from the HKSAR Government, statutory bodies, professional organisations and universities," said Sr Robin LEUNG Chi-tim, Chairman of Organising Committee of BSA 2017 and Past Chairman of the HKIS BSD.
