BEIJING, Oct. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CrossFit® Founder and CEO Greg Glassman tours Beijing this week to support local CrossFit® affiliates and warn Chinese consumers of the soda industry's role in funding and promoting inaccurate science which downplays the negative effects of soda consumption.

Glassman's tour coincides with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) President Greg Haff's visit to Beijing to address the International Performance Training Summit. The NSCA has a longstanding partnership with PepsiCo.

Glassman's visit also comes on the heels of a recent court decision in favor of CrossFit®, in which the US District Court for the Southern District of California ruled that the NSCA published false injury data about CrossFit® training and that a reasonable fact finder could conclude that the NSCA did so 1) knowing that the data was false and 2) with the intention of protecting its market share in the fitness industry and diminishing the burgeoning popularity of the CrossFit® program.

CrossFit® is a direct competitor to the NSCA both in the fitness trainer certification space and in nutritional prescription--the CrossFit® philosophy dictates the avoidance of sugar, especially sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda.

"Our gyms are the truth tellers," Glassman said. "We are going to drive soda and soda proxies out of the health sciences, and we are going to make sure people in China and across the world are aware of the truth."

Moving forward, CrossFit, Inc. will continue to challenge the soda industry's grip on the health sciences by exposing organizations like the NSCA that receive industry funding while publishing health science related information.
