KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- U Mobile has clinched double honors at the 13th annual Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Excellence Awards.

The awards, Mobile Data Service Provider of the Year and Mobile Service Provider of the Year, were presented to U Mobile on April 13 at an awards banquet held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

Mr. Avinash Sachdeva, Senior Industry Analyst, Digital Transformation, Asia-Pacific, Frost & Sullivan said that over the past couple of years, U Mobile has significantly enhanced its service portfolio with its data-centric offerings and fortified its position in the digital services arena.

He added that the company has also successfully leveraged its data-centric offers, including free & generous data quotas on prepaid top-ups and unlimited data streaming for mobile internet & postpaid subscribers, to attract new consumers, drive data consumption and monetize the emerging data opportunity.

He also said that in 2016, it further expanded its partnership with various content providers to support the increasing demand for digital content and offered the richest experience for online games, music and video streaming services. As a result, U Mobile's data traffic almost doubled and average data consumption increased to almost 4GB/month.

"Supported by the large number of data-savvy consumers on its network and its data-centric propositions, U Mobile achieved the highest non-voice revenue growth among its peers and has emerged as the winner in the mobile data battle," Mr. Sachdeva said.

He also said that U Mobile recorded the highest subscriber net-additions across both postpaid & prepaid consumers and achieved more than 5 million subscribers in 2016 with its value-for-money bundled plans, generous data quotas and content-centric digital services.

He noted that U Mobile also almost doubled the total data traffic and improved its blended ARPU by more than 10%. "Supported by subscriber growth and uplift in the blended ARPU, U Mobile recorded almost 30% growth in its revenues," he said.

Mr. Sachdeva also said that in 2016, U Mobile strengthened its subscriber market share and showcased impressive top line performance as compared to other leading MNOs, which reported a flat or negative overall performance. "As a result of the successful execution of its business strategy, U Mobile has emerged as the fastest growing mobile service provider in Malaysia," he added.

"We are honored to be recognized by Frost and Sullivan once again and this year we are delighted to receive not just one but two major awards. Being named Mobile Data Service Provider of the Year and Mobile Service Provider of the Year by Frost & Sullivan is testament that our unlimited products and services ideas which are borne out of our customers' passions are very well received and we are inspired to work even harder this year," said Mr. Wong Heang Tuck, U Mobile's CEO.
