SHANGHAI, June 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On the evening of Tuesday 16 May, the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai welcomed Chamber members and distinguished guests, including Her Majesty's Ambassador to China, Dame Barbara Woodward DCMG OBE, and the Mayor of Jing'an District, Mr Lu Xiaodong, to the official opening of the Chamber's new office in Zhang Yuan (张园), Jing'an District.

To mark the official opening of the new office, the Chamber was honoured to invite the Ambassador and the Mayor of Jing'an District to unveil a plaque to commemorate the official opening. The unveiling took place in the presence of British Consul-General in Shanghai, John Edwards, Area Director East China at the British Council, Matthew Knowles, along with representatives from the Jing'an Government and Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce (SFIC), Chairman of Jing Gong Group, Li Chunnong, and Chamber members.   

By drawing links between the historical significance of the Chamber's new office, located in the heart of the former British Concession, and the vision for the Chamber's new home, the Ambassador expressed her support for the Chamber, commenting that: "The new office is a wonderful space, providing the organisation with even greater potential for the future. Organisations like the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai continue to pioneer new and innovative opportunities for British companies in China. I look forward to continuing to work with the British Chamber in this golden era of UK-China relations."

Sharing with guests the Chamber's vision of building a hub fit for all members, the Chamber's Chairman, Barry Piper, noted that: "The new office has open spaces that can accommodate our hub initiatives such as the successful off-shore wind hub, and other similar hubs to follow. This is a space for members to drop by to do business with or help other members; a place not just for small start-ups but any business needing temporary co-working space." By providing members with the practical means to foster collaboration, the Chamber offers the foundations required to enhance business opportunities and strengthen the collective voice of the Chamber's members to both the British and Chinese governments.
