USGBC's Founding Chair to Anchor World's Largest Green Building Conference and Expo as it Comes to China for the First Time

SHANGHAI, Sept. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the creators of the LEED green building program, have announced International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™) Chairman and CEO Rick Fedrizzi as the keynote speaker for the inaugural Greenbuild China conference. Fedrizzi, the founding chair and former CEO of USGBC, is considered one of the foremost leaders of the global green and healthy building movement. His remarks will be delivered during the Opening Plenary on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

"Greenbuild is the place where the next generation of sustainability leaders will connect and help drive a new era of green building that is focused on improving human health and quality of life," said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). "Rick is an architect of the movement and will help inspire and invigorate attendees to carry our mission of a sustainable future for all, forward."

Under Fedrizzi's leadership at USGBC, the LEED green building program became the most widely used green building rating system in the world. A global environmental business leader, Fedrizzi now serves as chairman and CEO of IWBI, which develops and administers the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL™). WELL builds on LEED's focus on enhanced environmental performance and the improved human performance that come with better buildings and communities.

"IWBI is proud to use Greenbuild China as a platform to showcase what I call the 'second wave of sustainability,'" said Fedrizzi. "Our long collaboration with USGBC has allowed us to move further and faster on global adoption of building practices that put people at the center of design and operational decisions. China is clearly a leader in this evolution of the green building movement."

To support China's pivotal sustainability efforts, Greenbuild will bring together global industry leaders, experts and frontline professionals dedicated to sustainable building. The conference will take place October 17-18 at W Shanghai – The Bund providing two days of inspiring speakers, invaluable networking opportunities and industry showcases. The conference provides a forum for the green building community to unite, change lives, revolutionize business and address some of the world's most pressing issues, including air quality, human health, energy use and global climate change.
