HONG KONG, June 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- North Asia Regional Finals of "CGMA 2017 Global Business Challenge (GBC)" organised by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA | CIMA) was successfully concluded yesterday. Elite university students from the North Asian countries and regions such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Japan gathered at LT5, Lee Shau Kee Building at the Chinese University of Hong Kong to compete for strategic business thinking through analysis of business case studies and showcase their ability as future business elites. After a series of intense competitions followed by fair and strict judging process, Team Volter of Jinan University crowned the champion, while Team Synergy of Tsinghua University and Team GEM of Huazhong University of Science and Technology claimed second and third place respectively.

Since the launch of CIMA GBC in 2009 as a pilot, the competition has grown from strength to strength. And this year the new association formed by CIMA with American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA | CIMA) launched GBC, giving the competition more resources. The competition aims to provide a high standard international arena for exploring and nurturing undergraduates' outstanding business attributes. There were 8 finalists of elite university students competing for North Asia Regional Finals from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Macau University of Science and Technology, National Chengchi University of Taiwan, Kyoto University of Japan, Tsinghua University, Jinan University, Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Given a time limit, finalists had to analyse, report on the case study of "Wise Choice Hotel", and respond to questions from judges. Regarding the case of building a spa and fitness facility, the university students played the role as financial officers of the hotel to create a business plan, analyse cost and data, develop proposal for actions, staff training and corporate social responsibility initiatives. The case study was as challenging as the actual CIMA examination, which required high ability for financing, marketing, sales and management. Other than enhancing the competitiveness of participating teams, this competition also helps to prepare all-round talents for enterprises.

Mr. Andrew Harding, Chief Executive of Management Accounting of Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA│CIMA) said that the competition was one of the most important events in the calendar of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants as it provides an arena for elite students to showcase their outstanding business attributes and helps to discover the business leaders of tomorrow.

Mr. Charles Tilley, the chief judge and the Executive Chairman of CGMA Research Foundation commented that, "The performance was exceptionally high. The winners covered all of the issues that they are asked to address with good quality analysis and they also went beyond the questions to address other issues."

Zehui WU from Jinan University of the champion team said that, "We were still amending the presentation one day before the competition. One of the challenges we encountered was that since it is a very professional competition, the wordings we used at first are professional and difficult to understand, but we decided to change it into spoken language to present at last."

"CGMA 2017 Global Business Challenge(GBC)" North Asia Regional Finals also launched several awards. "The Best Video Award" and "The Best Talent Show Award" were awarded to Team Synergy of Tsinghua University and Team MUSTER of Macau University of Science and Technology respectively, while "Future Business Leader Award" was awarded to Xinyi WANG from Team Volter of Jinan University. The competition was in partnership with Coca-Cola Company and supported by the New World Development Limited.
