JAKARTA, Indonesia, May 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Defence and security company Saab, has finalised a new vessel traffic service (VTS) system for the Port of Tanjung Priok following a Successful Acceptance Test by the customer, Indonesian Port Cooperation (IPC) II (Pelindo II).

The Tanjung Priok VTS has successfully completed all required stability testing and is now operating under warranty. Saab and its local subcontractors completed the installation on time and a 10-year maintenance contract will support future operations. A formal commissioning ceremony for the VTS will be held later this year.

Tanjung Priok Port is Indonesia's largest port facility. This first VTS contract for Saab in Indonesia serves as a reference model to encourage safer navigation within the nation's ports and for further business in the key Indonesian market.

The Tanjung Priok VTS installation comprises two sensor masts (one constructed in water at the harbour approaches) along with five smaller masts for CCTV, loud hailers and communication equipment. The existing operations and equipment rooms in the port office building were also rebuilt and remodelled. Other supplied equipment included two meteorological stations, one VHF direction finder, a SCADA system and a complete V3000 VTMIS system. The Saab VTS system also connects to an existing radar mast, belonging to a different organisation.

"The Port VTS project was really a challenge for us but we are supported by the proven experience of Saab and its industry team. It is amazing to see how such technology gives a great boost to the port industry, particularly in terms of safety. As the largest port in Indonesia, the value of Port VTS is incontrovertible, considering the number of activities on a daily basis. Now is the time for the Port of Tanjung Priok to step up to the next level and promote further safe and effective operations within the port," said Mr Prasetyadi, IPC Director, Operations.

The contract between Saab Technologies (Hong Kong) Ltd and IPC was signed at the end of August 2015.
