For its 30th anniversary this year, a series of internal and public celebrations were held. The 30th anniversary evening banquet was held at the Taipei Marriott Hotel, in the fifth-floor Grand Ballroom, on October 28. The sky lantern was chosen as the theme of the banquet, symbolizing well-wishes, and many external guests, customers, and employees were invited to take part in the event together, in a fitting finale to the year's anniversary celebrations.

Mr. Ralf Scheller, who has now been promoted to Chief Operating Officer of TUV Rheinland Group, served as managing director of the Taiwan branch many years ago, and has a long association with the island. Mr. Scheller not only thanked Taiwanese employees, customers, and friends in all sectors for their support on behalf of the TUV Rheinland Group, but also talked about the key milestones in recent years and the future focus of development. Over its 30 years of local development, TUV Rheinland Taiwan has gradually expanded from two German engineers sent to Taiwan to a team of more than 450 people. Its service portfolio encompasses a variety of different solutions in information technology, railways, food, system certification, used-car certification, environmental protection and energy, industrial services, and lifestyle products. These help to realize its mission of a better society by introducing international experience to Taiwan and delivering the value of Taiwan to the world. This has both helped to promote international exchange and also raised Taiwan's profile.

Old photos from the past touched the hearts of employees and guests alike, awakening fond memories. A series of celebrations were undertaken with much success, including the request for time-capsule photos and voting. This activity generated an enthusiastic response from employees; many participants submitted special memories from their years with TUV Rheinland Taiwan, or searched through their storage boxes to find unique treasures. These included a recruitment ad from 20 years ago, an individual's first salary slip from their time as an intern, Mr. Scheller's business card when he was an entry-level engineer, a company videotape from 15 years ago, and the first product-specific testing document for a client. Through the presentation of these items, it was clear how much meaning they had for TUV employees, and how marvelous the history of TUV Rheinland in Taiwan has been.

The support and trust of customers is the engine of business growth. Winning the heart of customers in particular takes commitment and hard work from all employees, so that customer satisfaction can be converted to customer loyalty. "We've been working together for 22 years," said Tain-Rong Chen, Senior General Manager at Walsin Lihwa Corporation. "From ISO 9001 to PED, we have invited TUV Rheinland to handle our certification every time. A lot of these certifications were originally for the EU market, because it has the strictest standards. If we have had inspection-related questions, our first port of call has always been TUV Rheinland."

MEAN WELL is another long-time customer, which began working with TUV Rheinland over 25 years ago as a small start-up and is now an international enterprise. Company founder Jerry Lin talked about his insights from years of cooperation on product-safety standards through to management systems: "TUV Rheinland's rigor and commitment means no detail is left to check. This ensures that our products comply with global requirements. It is also how MEAN WELL has become one of the leading brands for power supplies in Europe." TUV Rheinland Taiwan has worked over the years to understand its customers in every industry and to continuously incorporate their requirements into its service offerings in order to lay the foundations for mutual success.

In the future, the pace of reforms will be accelerated under the "Do it. Best!" concept, guided by the 2020 targets set by the head office and the new organizational reform strategy. "TUV Rheinland Taiwan will enter a new stage," said Max Lyou, Managing Director of TUV Rheinland Taiwan. "We now want to be more than just a follower in product-safety standards. We want to become a pioneer in social safety. We hope that we can continue to channel energy for safety, sustainability, energy, and environmental protection to individuals, companies, and society as a whole." Taiwan's electronics and information industries have long enjoyed worldwide renown. Now that consumer electronics has entered the maturity phase, PCs are changing from being heavy, cumbersome computers, with usage moving into the ubiquitous cloud age. Emerging fields such as smart cities, smart homes, smart cars, smart wearable devices, smart robots, and virtual reality (VR)/augmented reality (AR) have all produced new products for which no safety standards previously existed. This in turn means that a strengthening of digital, energy, and infrastructure, as well as investments in supply-chain services, will play an important role in future development.

TUV Rheinland Taiwan started out providing only localized services for export to Germany. This eventually grew to providing one-stop certification services for multiple countries and inspection requirements. By helping Taiwanese companies achieve explosive growth in the competitiveness of their exports, TUV Rheinland has in essence witnessed the rise and triumph of the Taiwanese ICT industry. Even today, TUV Rheinland still leads the industry in number of electrical and electronic specialists.

At 30 years of age, TUV Rheinland Taiwan remains quite youthful in comparison to the TUV Rheinland Group, with its 140 years of history. It will continue to contribute its efforts to Taiwan and the Greater China region, while also helping companies accelerate their pace of globalization. The corporate "Precisely Right" spirit, and a corporate culture of innovation and safety, will be leveraged to create services that better meet the needs of users. TUV Rheinland has since its founding enjoyed support and recognition from all sectors. In the future, it will continue to build upon existing foundations, and engage in the pursuit of excellence with the goal of achieving a balance between man, technology and the environment.
