MELBOURNE, Australia, Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Woodlea Estate is a vibrant new community located just 29kms from Melbourne's CBD. It spans over 711 hectares and it is estimated that one day the residential development will be home to 20,000+ residents. It is the newest part of the fast-growing Western region of Melbourne, with easy access to the Western Freeway offering excellent commuter links to the surrounding area and the centre of Melbourne.

Within the Woodlea vicinity there are shops, schools, a train station, bike/walking trails, wetlands and more. The final vision for the area also includes prominent sporting facilities.

A new town centre is destined to be the heart of civil works at this exciting new development, which plans to offer up to a dozen retail shops, various professional services, a supermarket, and all the day-to-day essentials of life. Keeping in touch with friends, family and neighbours will be as easy as strolling over to your favourite Woodlea cafe.

In creating the infrastructure for this superb new community, great efforts have been made by the civil construction team at Winslow to nurture and protect local wildlife, which is a major part of the Woodlea ambience, especially within the Deanside Wetlands area and along the Kororoit Creek corridor. Specialist care has been required to protect the unique nature of the area, covering everything from biodiversity and planning controls to trails and recreational space.

Eco-friendliness is also integral to the plans for the community. Woodlea is an Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Enviro-development accredited community that meets stringent civil construction standards to ensure minimal impact on the environment.

As part of the community engagement ethos, Winslow have also partnered with the local Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services Group, and together they run a range of training courses at the Smart Learning Hub located in the Woodlea Display Village. These courses provide job seekers interested in the civil construction industry, with the opportunity of employment and ongoing training with Winslow.

This initiative is part of the State Government's "Jobs Victoria" program which provides additional resources to connect employers and disadvantaged jobseekers. The program's aim is to get more Victorians into long-term work. Program participants at Woodlea's Smart Learning Hub complete a Certificate III in Civil Construction training course.

Since its inception the project has become a very positive and successful partnership in facilitating pathways to employment for diverse groups of disadvantaged Victorians.

Since the first phase of interviews in March 2017, Winslow Constructors have placed eight Victorians into employment through their partnership with West@Work and all eight are successfully continuing on with their employment at Winslow.

The West@Work organisation, which manages the recruitment aspects of the program said:

"Winslow have been open in both understanding and accepting suitable candidates who are job ready. Many of these candidates may have had gaps in their employment history, suffered from mental health issues, or simply come from a disadvantaged background. Winslow have also sincerely embraced a philosophy of equal employment opportunity for all Victorians."

Winslow was awarded the first stage civil works contract at Woodlea project in December 2014, with initial civil construction works on stages 1 to 3 starting in early 2015. Winslow is currently constructing stages 17-28, and in recognition of their expertise and performance have completed all stages on the project thus far.
