SHKP Executive Director and Deputy Managing Director Victor Lui and 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity -- Race to Hong Kong ICC' Event Organizing Committee Co-chairman Edward Cheung BBS officiated the kick-off ceremony at sky100 Hong Kong Observation Deck.  Attending guests included the International Skyrunning Federation President Marino Giacometti, Race Director David Shin, 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity -- Race to Hong Kong ICC' Expert Advisory Panel Member and Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education of Hong Kong Baptist University Dr Lobo Louie, Chairman of the Hong Kong Dietitians Association Sylvia Lam, 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity -- Race to Hong Kong ICC' Expert Advisory Panel Member and President of the Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science Dr Gary Mak, and 2015 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity -- Race to Hong Kong ICC' Men's Individual Overall Champion Eric Yeung and 2015 Youth relay teams.

Victor Lui opened the event by saying, "SHKP has been dedicated to 'Building Homes with Heart' and promoting a healthy, sustainable lifestyle through organising charity sporting events to advocate 'Exercise for Good'. This is the fifth consecutive year that SHKP hosts international vertical running races with the aim of engaging the public in sport and caring for those in need in our community. Since 2012, 'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity' has raised over HKD25 million from races in Hong Kong and Shanghai. To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we have a series of community activities specially prepared to help the public understand more about vertical running and to encourage more people to participate in sport for charity."

Age Categories Subdivided to Enhance Competition

This year, the race will include 'Elite', 'Individual', 'Fun Climb' and 'Team Relay'. To respond to participants' request, the 'Age 40 or above' group in this year's 'Individual' race will be further divided into 'Age 40-49' and 'Age 50 or above' and thus runners with comparable strengths can compete in the same category. 'Team Relay' will continue to have 'Corporate' and 'Open' categories, while 'Students' category is introduced to allow Secondary and Tertiary students to form teams to join the race in order to attract more young participants. 'Fun Climb' will remain the same with 'Type A' and 'Type B' for runners of all ages to experience the fun of vertical running.

Chance for Individual Champions to Race Overseas - Early-bird Special Offers

To encourage local sports enthusiasts, SHKP will continue to sponsor, as in 2015, the overall champions of the men's and women's Individual races to participate in overseas races in the coming year. At the same time, to promote early preparation for the race, there will be 2 different early-bird registration offer for 'Individual', 'Team Relay (Students)', 'Team Relay (Open)' and 'Fun Climb' if runners register on or before 16 September.

5th Anniversary Community Activities - Professional Training for Runners

SHKP will further expand its community outreach this year to include not only 'Step-Up for Fitness' fund-raising activities at SHKP residential properties to encourage tenants to raise funds through exercise, but also some innovative initiatives via mobile app to promote the fun of vertical running and public participation. Additionally, SHKP will collaborate with both Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology as well as Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to organise workshops providing comprehensive and effective training for interested runners to better prepare themselves.

Race to Shanghai IFC - Raise Money for Child and Youth Development

'SHKP Vertical Run for Charity -- Race to Shanghai IFC' will be held on 23 October 2016 at Shanghai IFC, where runners will challenge 1,460 stairs to spread the positive message of helping others.
