Blaser Swisslube Targets Asia Growth with New Competence Centre at Hong Kong Science Park

Teaming up with HKSTP and Hong Kong Polytechnic University to Drive Improvements in Industrial Precision across APAC

HONG KONG, May 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Blaser Swisslube AG, a producer of high-quality metalworking fluids, has opened an Asia-Pacific competence centre at Hong Kong Science Park to help drive business growth and improve the quality of the machining process for customers across the region.

By working closely with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation ("HKSTP") and locating its key regional centre in Hong Kong Science Park, the family-owned firm has access to world-class facilities and connections to an extensive R&D community and academia, including Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with which it has formed a collaborative relationship.

Blaser Swisslube AG develops and produces high-quality cutting and grinding fluids, which its customers use when making a wide range of products, from the tiniest of components to large, critical and structural components in all manufacturing industries. The new Asia Pacific Competence Centre, which is similar to their existing facilities in Switzerland and the United States, positions Blaser Swisslube AG to increase its market penetration in the region and especially mainland China which has become the world's biggest buyer of precision machining tools in recent years.

"This investment is in line with our strategy of bringing Liquid Tool technology nearer to our markets" said Patrick Mathys, Regional Head of Asia-Pacific, Blaser Swisslube Asia Ltd. "With our Liquid Tool approach, we aim to optimise our customers' manufacturing processes, helping them improve their machining quality, productivity and profitability. In close co-operation with the customers and based on an holistic view of the manufacturing process, we enable the potential of machines and tools to be fully exploited. Setting up our regional competence centre at Hong Kong Science Park and leveraging Hong Kong Polytechnic University's industrial training facilities give us a strong service development and delivery capability on the doorstep of China, which is emerging as a key player in the field of high-precision manufacturing."

Blaser Swisslube AG's new Asia Pacific Competence Centre combines offices with a fully-equipped testing laboratory, enabling staff chemists to work with customers from around the region to fine-tune their Liquid Tool applications. The company joins a community of over 500 technology-driven companies and more than 11,000 engineers, scientists, R&D specialists, entrepreneurs and support staff at Science Park. This puts it close to the China market while benefitting from Hong Kong's robust intellectual property protection, competent and motivated workforce and world-class infrastructure.

"HKSTP is on a mission to re-energise industrial development in Hong Kong, with a particular focus on hi-tech, high-precision, high-value manufacturing," said Allen Ma, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP. "We are therefore targeting industrial partners from across the world that can bring in new capabilities. Blaser Swisslube is a valuable addition to the ecosystem at Science Park with a strong potential to impact downstream players in the high-precision value chain."

Under its collaboration agreement with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Blaser Swisslube has provided an initial HK$160,000 of materials and equipment to support the start-up of training activities at the university's Industrial Centre. As operations ramp up, it is expecting to deliver multilingual training for up to 2,000 people a year on Blaser Swisslube's Liquid Tool solutions.
