Chengdu Hi-tech Zone: Speeding Up the Mobile Internet Industry

CHENGDU, China, June 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The management committee of the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone ("Chengdu Hi-tech Zone", "CDHT") today announced an official decision to help accelerate mobile internet industry. Focusing on two foundations, the software platforms of the mobile internet and the manufacturing and researching of mobile internet devices, CDHT will speed up the innovation work and related services of mobile internet applications, and ultimately shape the zone into a hot spot with both domestic and global influences in the mobile internet industry, where both innovative elements and the carrier industries can rapidly assemble and grow.

According to the newly-released Opinions of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone on Accelerating the Development of Mobile Internet Industry, till 2017, CDHT will cultivate more than 1,000 companies, construct more than 1,000,000 square meters for the innovative industry, attract over 100,000 workers, and realize an industries' scale of over 200 billion RMB, of which the income of the application and service will reach over 50 billion RMB. Specifically, seven measures, including carrier assurance, special policies, professional services, investment promotion, recruitment promotion, special funds and marketing publicity, will be implemented to afford a friendly environment for the fast acceleration of the mobile internet industry.

Approved by the State Council as the communication hub of southwest China, Chengdu occupies the fourth ranking, after Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, among research centers of communication technology and equipment. Meanwhile, the development of the communication industry and communication service abilities allows the city to play a leading role among the central and western regions of China. Specifically, several major advantages guarantee the acceleration of the mobile internet industry in CDHT. First of all, the excellent performances of the communication research and software industries serve as the very foundation of the fast-growing mobile internet industry. Secondly, top universities and colleges, such as the university of Electronic Science and Technology of China, support the HR market considerably, contributing a huge talent pool for the mobile internet industry. Thirdly, more than 90% of mobile internet companies and teams in Chengdu settle in the software parks and incubation centers of CDHT, which turns the zone into a high-density area for the mobile internet industry. Moreover, an abundance of national service platforms and local information service suppliers in the zone, including eStore of China Telecom, myapp of Tencent, Central Music Platform of China Mobile, and more, can largely benefit the upgrade and further development of the industry. What is more, "made in CDHT" mobile game and mobile payment applications have unique strengths in the domestic market, while a series of local start-ups, such as Tap4Fun and its Galaxy Empire, and Pinguo Tech and its Camera360, have all made a name for themselves in the industry and beyond.

Noticeably, not only does the mobile internet industry reflect the traditional compositions of telecom operators, equipment suppliers, content providers and service support, but it will also extend to other areas of business, finance, logistics, etc. Earlier this month, CDHT announced the set-up of an 80 million RMB governmental angel investment fund which will primarily support mobile internet start-ups. Applicant enrollment has already commenced.
