The organizing committee for the Chuncheon 2014 International Leisure Sports Festival said on Wednesday they have finished installing various structures at the festival's main venues and training staff members with just two days left before the festival's opening.

The 3rd edition of the festival is set to run until Sept. 2 in Chuncheon, 85 kilometers northeast of Seoul, with some 16,000 athletes from 46 different countries, including South Korea, attending. Around 200 foreigners are expected in town to participate in international competitions, they said, adding that some local and foreign athletes already begun practicing in areas near the venues.

About 150 volunteers and 150 civil servants have received training in areas from interpretation to directing parking, they said.

In addition, the organizers have completed repairs of an inline rink and a pavement leading to the landing field of the Mount Daeryong gliding site, both venues of the sports meet.

Local police and firefighting authorities will check on safety facilities at stadiums on Thursday, the organizers said.

"We're ready to receive visitors after finishing educating volunteers and officials from the Chuncheon city government, repairing arenas and checking on accommodation to make the festival a success," said Kim Yong-eun, secretary-general of the organizing committee.
