KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, April 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuous investment in end-user industries such as oil and gas, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, marine and automotive is driving the growth of the Southeast Asian low-voltage (LV) integral horsepower (IHP) motors market. With the existing installed base of LV IHP operational for the last 10 to 15 years, vendors can expect considerable replacement demand from end users. Replacement opportunities will be particularly strong in the motors with a power rating of 55 kilowatts and below, as it is cheaper to purchase these products than repair or rewind them.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of Southeast Asian Low-voltage Integral Horsepower Motors Market (http://www.frost.com/p859), finds that the market earned revenues of US$383.6 million in 2014 and estimates this to reach US$479.6 million in 2018. The study covers alternating and direct current LV IHP motors.

"Targets to reduce energy consumption across countries in Southeast Asia have been fuelling the adoption of high-efficiency LV IHP motors," said Frost & Sullivan Industrial Automation & Process Control Research Associate Nurrafidah Rashid. "Uptake will continue to rise, as governments in the region have placed energy efficiency high on their political agenda in order to strengthen energy security and cut greenhouse gas emissions."

Motor-driven systems account for 45 percent of the electrical energy consumed in the industrial sector and energy costs of motors contribute to 96 percent of its total lifecycle costs. As a result, Southeast Asian governments will soon be implementing regulations that make it mandatory for electrical motors to meet certain energy performance standards. This is an important step to achieve energy-efficiency targets.

"Clearly, widespread opportunities exist for bigger vendors to supply energy-efficient LV IHP motors," noted Nurrafidah. "By rolling out such motors, vendors will also be able to counter the threat from low-cost regional and Chinese manufacturers, who are attracting price-sensitive end users, creating intense pricing pressures."
