JCDecaux Chief Executive Officer of Greater China Mr. Stephen Wong, Shanghai Shentong Metro Asset Management Ltd Deputy General Manager and Shentong JCDecaux Metro Advertising Co., Ltd Chairman Ms. Xiao Jie, Climate Group Greater China President Ms. Wu Changhua and Shentong JCDecaux Metro Advertising Co., Ltd General Manager Grace Zhou attended the launch ceremony and expressed their confidence and encouragement in the campaign. The well-known actress Miss Li Bingbing, who was recently appointed the position of UNEP Goodwill Ambassador, also attended the ceremony to advocate for a low- carbon life and share her own low-carbon living experiences with the public through her personal public service brand, "L.O.V.E- responsible life". She is the first person to promote and make a low-carbon life promise through the online campaign, "Who is a Hero in Low-carbon Living" launched Aug. 26, 2010.

The online election campaign “Who is a Hero in Low-Carbon Living” will join efforts with the Million Forest campaign, launched by the Climate Group, to select three groups as civil, low-carbon heroes (families or individuals). The campaign began on Aug. 26, 2010 and the heroes will be selected three months later on Nov. 26, 2010 after submitting low-carbon tips, advice and their promise to commit and advocate for a low-carbon lifestyle. Images of the selected heroes will be shown in Shanghai subway ads to further promote a low-carbon lifestyle.

Shentong JCDecaux has secured a large area of metro advertising space specifically for the campaign with advertisements that feature Li Bingbing promoting low-carbon living, which are heavily displayed in ads throughout various metro stations. This advertising campaign began on Aug. 26, 2010.

JCDecaux Chief Executive Officer of Greater China Mr. Stephen Wong said, "Through this campaign, we want to prove that everyone can become a low-carbon hero and each enterprise can greatly contribute to the community and the environment as long as we live a responsible life and operate a responsible business. To operate a responsible business means being responsible for customers, the public and partners and not just the enterprises alone. JCDecaux will strive for innovation to use energy saving technology in JCDecaux metro, airport and bus media to present environmentally-friendly and stylish advertising methods that passengers can enjoy. We will work together with low-carbon and environmentally concerned enterprises to promote these advertisements that advocate for a low-carbon lifestyle."

Today, daily Shanghai subway traffic has reached a record of nearly 7 million people, making it the world's busiest metro system. This transportation method is also known to be a vibrant, fashion artery in Shanghai. To travel by subway is widely acclaimed as an example of low-carbon living and is also an important window showcasing stylish city life. The campaign speaks to numerous passengers and community members who seek low-carbon lives and asks them to interact online and offline sharing their low-carbon tips while becoming everyday, low-carbon heroes. The campaign encourages more people (both individuals and families) to practice low-carbon living.

Climate Group, a co-sponsor of the campaign, recently rose to fame in China through its dedication to promoting low-carbon development. They are now widely recognized by all social sectors. Climate Group Greater China President Ms. Wu Changhua believes low-carbon development is not only a shared responsibility between the government and enterprises, but is also the responsibility of the general public. As a response to recent climate changes, Climate Group believes it is important to ask the general public to actively participate in advocating and promoting low-carbon living.

Low-carbon living means reducing your carbon footprint, particularly carbon dioxide emissions, by reducing daily energy consumption. In China, CO2 emissions per capita are 2.7 tons. In the city, the carbon emissions of a white-collared worker who lives in a 40-square meter home, drives to work in a 1.6L car and takes 12 flights per year will be 2,611 tons. It is clear that saving energy and reducing emissions is a critical need in China. Low-carbon living is a green way of life that we must develop.
