MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the inline computed tomography (CT) systems market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes ZEISS with the 2015 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Leadership. A leading supplier of CT systems, German-based Carl Zeiss Industrielle Messtechnik GmbH (ZEISS) has demonstrated its products' value in resolving several industry challenges with its VoluMax family of products (VoluMax 400, VoluMax 800 and VoluMax 1500). The VoluMax portfolio has raised the bar in innovation by drastically reducing the reject rates of parts by facilitating the assessment and location of defects.

The VoluMax product line employs a redefining technology that supports higher measurement speeds, ambient temperatures and can integrate seamlessly with the production process. The first product in this series was launched in 2013, and VoluMax has since been working towards building the next generation of CT systems to aid the inline production environment.

ZEISS has used CT technology that can be deployed with cast light metal, aluminum and plastic parts for automobile, medical and mechanical engineering appliances. In particular, VoluMax presents 3D results for permeability and porosity analyses, allowing companies to correctly measure and analyze defects in parts within seconds.

"There is still a need for inline CT (Computed Tomography) systems supporting higher scanning speeds, sizing of parts, detection of defects, and ambient temperature in the production environment," said Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Mariano Kimbara. "In today's frenetic pace of manufacturing, the need to maximize productivity, while ensuring 100% inspection, is a critical customer requirement."

Striving to provide a high-performing, cost effective and accurate system with a broad array of value-added benefits, ZEISS has combined 3D and 2D model inspections in the production setting. ZEISS' family of products can withstand temperature fluctuations between 15 and 40 °C. The VoluMax line of CT systems can capture and reconstruct images while offering correct assembly configuration at unprecedented speeds of 10-120 seconds per work piece. On average, the entire process, including scanning and reconstruction, takes between 25 seconds and 30 minutes for high resolution images.

The functional richness of ZEISS' VoluMax family of products with regard to unmatched speed, accuracy and temperature tolerance helps customers identify the exact size and location of a defect. VoluMax analyses each part of a system in terms of defects and dimensions.

"The company has enhanced its X-ray imaging capabilities in the production environment in comparison to other CT systems available on the market based on higher X-ray power, which reduces measuring time significantly to achieve those high-speed measuring levels," noted Kimbara. "VoluMax is an innovative product line that has been designed with a semiconductor flat-panel detector, a micro and dual focus tube X-ray generation, the system is controlled and operated by the ZEISS Software Metrotom OS."

ZEISS has further distinguished itself with its outstanding customer interaction through regular calibrations, maintenance agreements and software services. It is focused on delivering extended service life and reducing maintenance costs. The company has also placed due emphasis on sustaining its leadership position by providing customized and local training technical courses for all its inspections measuring systems.

Overall, for its unique CT inspection product line and customer centricity, Frost & Sullivan is pleased to present ZEISS with the 2015 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Leadership.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed a product with innovative features and functionality, gaining rapid acceptance in the market. The award recognizes the quality of the solution and the customer value enhancements it enables.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.
