HONG KONG, Nov. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) presented Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, with Honorary RICS Membership during her visit to the RICS Headquarters in London's Parliament Square. This is to recognise Mrs Lam's outstanding contribution to thought leadership and practical action in creating a better built environment in Hong Kong as Secretary for Development.

Honorary Membership of RICS is conferred by the International Governing Council on a handful of eminent individuals whose role and standing will enhance the profession by association. Of over 100,000 Chartered Surveyors worldwide, only 200 are appointed to Honorary status. Among the list of HonRICS members are HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, and the former Chief Secretary Sir David Akers-Jones, who is the only other HonRICS in Hong Kong.  Honorary Members are ambassadors for RICS and assist in promoting excellence in the surveying profession.

RICS President, Alan Collett said, "We are extremely honoured to be hosting Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Hong Kong delegation in RICS Headquarters. It gives me great pleasure to award Mrs Lam with Honorary RICS Membership in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the built environment."

Earlier in March this year, Mrs Lam, the then Secretary for Development, was named as Property Person of the Year at the RICS Hong Kong Property Awards by 12 jurors unanimously. The award was to commend her dedication to sustainable and quality building designs, urban regeneration, heritage conservation, harbourfront enhancement, revitalisation of industrial buildings, and a wide range of policy advancements in the land, property and construction sectors.

RICS hosted a high level meeting with Mrs Lam on prominent infrastructure projects underway in Hong Kong and lessons to be learnt from UK ventures on 14 November. Mrs Lam spoke on the business opportunities available for foreign investments in Hong Kong, whilst Ms Florence Hui, the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, said the HKSAR Government would learn from the legacy planning of the London Olympics during the planning process of the sport complex in Kai Tak. Also attending the event were senior HKSAR Government officials and high-level UK and global industry players.
