SEOUL, South Korea, June 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On the night of June 12th, Hanwha hosted a reception for the Korea Defense Veterans Association South Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation at The Plaza Hotel Seoul, and signed an MOU promising a patronage fund worth one million dollars and ongoing support.

Major personnel under government authority including the Vice President (ROK) of Korea Defense Veterans Association (former Army Chief of Staff) Kwon Oh-sung, the Chair of Korea-US Alliance Foundation (former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade) Yu Myung-hwan, the Chairman of the National Defense Committee Kim Young-woo, the member of the National Assembly Lee Jong-myeong, the Vice-Minister of National Defense Seo Joo-seok along with the Commander of ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command Vincent Brooks, the Deputy Commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command Gen. Leem Ho-young and the representatives of Hanwha's defense industry affiliates participated in this event.

The Korea Defense Veterans Association was founded on the 3rd of May in Washington DC. The Association covers three million United States Forces in Korea, ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command and South Korea-U.S. military personnel who served in KATUSA. Also, the Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation appointed YU Myung-hwan (previous Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade) as the first Board President starting on April 26 to support the Korea Defense Veterans Association and to enhance the South Korean-U.S. alliance.

During the event, President (ROK) of Korea Defense Veterans Association (former Commander of ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command) Walter Sharp said in his welcoming speech, "We deeply appreciate the sacrifices of the Korean-US military personnel, working hard to protect peace and democracy for Republic of Korea, against North Korea's constant threats since the Korean War. We also thank Korean nationals and corporations such as Hanwha, that support this cause."
