SANYA, China, June 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 10, Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, and Evergrande Group jointly paid a site visit in Haitang Bay, Sanya, for the site selection of the new international hospital to be built in China. An original report from Sina Leju follows.

After the site visit, the two parties had a meeting with the main leaders of Hainan Province and Sanya City.

Attendees of the meeting included Stephen Thomson, senior vice president and chief development officer of BWH, professor from Harvard University Medical School, and head of the Surgical Department and medical director of BWH; HuikaYan, chairman of the board of directors of Evergrande, and Tan Chaohui, executive vice president of Evergrande, and chairman of Evergrande Health, a listed company; Zhang Qi, member of Hainan Provincial Party Committee, and Sanya municipal party secretary, and Wu Yanjun, municipal party deputy secretary and mayor of Sanya City.

"The visit of the Harvard team to China for site selection of the hospital together with Evergrande, and the meeting with the government signified the continued intensification of strategic cooperation between the two parties, and substantial progress in the joint construction of a new international hospital in China," said an insider.

It is revealed that the new international hospital is an important business sector for Evergrande Health (708.HK), a diversified flagship of Evergrande. In addition, Evergrande Health is exploring the possibility of promoting various fields such as medical cosmetology and anti-aging, health management, pensions and more.

"There is a significant gap in terms of the medical level and medical management between China and developed countries. If Evergrande successfully introduces this world-leading hospital, the medical level in China will be significantly improved and it will be an important livelihood project which will benefit people across the country."

Harvard and Evergrande entered into strategic cooperation in 2013 and since then have successively co-founded three centers for green architecture, health and medical care, applied sciences and more so as to promote scientific research and industry development in relevant fields.

IOn addition to its affiliation with Harvard University, BWH is a top-ranked hospital in the world, and has won the most Nobel prizes among hospitals. It also takes the lead in the world in many fields.

Harvard and Evergrande already made an additional site visit in Guangzhou on June 9.

After the Sanya trip is over, the two parties will also go to Shenzhen for site visit and meeting with Xu Qin, municipal party deputy secretary and mayor of Shenzhen.
