Himfr reports that this year peppers, aniseed, mushrooms, etc. are quietly raising prices. At present, good quality pepper is 12 yuan/kg. Compared to the same period of last year at 9 yuan/kg, the price has risen by nearly one half. Currently the best pepper products with the highest prices reach 17 yuan/kg. At 8 yuan/kg, the price of aniseed is three times that of last year.
Pepper prices have been relatively higher recently, with wholesale price sitting at around 17 yuan/kg. Sichuan peppers are distributed China-wide and are famous; however, the southwest's late spring coldness has frozen pepper seedlings, while drought has also been a factor in a bad harvest. While now pepper is basically well stocked, new pepper production has been cut down, and local people are beginning to hoard.
Starting from April, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces have encountered extreme weather, resulting in more than half of their pepper production being cut down. Therefore, it has been since April that pepper prices have continued to rise.
Aniseed wholesale prices are abnormally high. Last year prices were only 2-3 yuan/kg. Now the average price is 8 yuan/kg. Pepper and aniseed currently on the market is from last year's stock. This year, as peppers' places of origin have been affected by weather, production cuts have been severe. Local stocks are experiencing a shortage, so the price will not rebound quickly or substantially.
