BEIJING, April 10 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Huaneng Power International, Inc. (the "Company") (NYSE: HNP; HKEx: 902; SSE: 600011) today announced its power generation in the first quarter of 2007.
Based on the Company's preliminary statistics, for the first quarter ended March 31, 2007, the Company's total power generation based on a consolidated basis amounted to 38.867 billion kWh. Due to the change of the shareholding structure, such statistics do not include the generation by Sichuan Hydro Power. By excluding Sichuan Hydro Power's generation in last year, the Company's power generation in the first quarter of 2007 increased by 7.61% compared to the same period last year. The power generation of Xindian Power Plant, Huaiyin Power Plant, Yushe Power Plant, Dandong Power Plant, Luohuang Power Plant and Yueyang Power Plant increased significantly as compared to the same period last year.
The increase in power generation of the Company's power plants was mainly attributable to the following reasons:
1. Since 2006, the commencement of the operation of 15 new generating
units at various power plants, including Xindian Power Plant, Huaiyin
Power Plant, Luohuang Power Plant, Yueyang Power Plant and Yuhuan
Power Plant, has increased the Company's generation capacity;
2. As a result of continuing economic growth, power demand in the
regions where the Company's power plants operated recorded a steady
growth, thereby providing favourable market conditions for more power
generation by the Company's power plants.
