Huawei Unveils Its OceanStor Flash Strategy to Accelerate Flash Memory Adoption in Data Centres Across Europe

2015-10-30 18:00 2341

LISBON, Portugal, Oct. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei today launched its OceanStor Flash Strategy in Europe, with the aim of widening the adoption of flash memory in data centres, and helping customers step into an "all-flash" era where high performance and excellent reliability are the norm.

Huawei has developed its strategy to intensify work with its partners in the industry supply chain, producing innovative flash controllers, media chips and new enterprise storage systems based on "all-flash" technology. The launch of the OceanStor Flash Strategy took place at the Media Day, held in conjunction with the Huawei CIO Forum and Network Congress taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, today and tomorrow.

The core of the strategy sees Huawei integrating solid-state drives (SSDs) into its storage products sold throughout Europe, following its launch in China at the beginning of September. Equivalent to 15K RPM SAS disks in price, SSDs can bring more benefits for customers for the same budget and improve critical service performance fivefold, while effectively mitigating the impact of the environment on disk arrays.

Huawei signed its first collaboration agreement under the new strategy with flash memory provider Micron at the 2015 Huawei Cloud Congress in Shanghai in September, with a view to producing innovative technologies to expand the adoption of SSD flash memory in data centres.

"The move to integrate flash memory in data storage will deliver optimal user experience and low power consumption. It is well suited to customers' business needs now and in the future, and is a vital tool in addressing the challenges of Big Data," commented Yuan Yaun, CTO of Huawei IT Solutions Sales in Western Europe. "Cooperation with Micron in the flash memory area is another shining example of Huawei's long-term commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem for partners within the industry chain, and jointly developing industry-specific product solutions."

Compared with conventional enterprise storage vendors, Huawei employs "future-proof" software architecture, allowing Huawei to move rapidly when researching and developing storage products in line with emerging data application trends. Huawei also seeks to combine the wisdom and knowledge of multiple parties in the supply chain to develop truly unique solutions, rather than simply following the technological trends of the moment and the leadership of others.

"We cannot achieve innovation by ourselves. Everything we have created, obtained, and achieved would not be possible without the joint efforts of our partners and the unflinching trust of our customers," added Mr Yuan. "As the IT industry becomes open and free, and the IT market continues to grow, Huawei looks forwards to teaming up with partners to build application solutions oriented to end systems, and to continuously improving the level of industrial technology and innovation needed while meeting its long-term commitments."
