NOIDA, India, Feb. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- IIT Kharagpur, the first of the world-renowned IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and one of the most coveted higher education Institutes in India, has decided to accept LSAT scores for international students (and LSAT-India scores for candidates from India) for admissions to its 3 year LL. B. Program in Intellectual Property Laws. LSAT(R) is the standardized test designed for law school admissions by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), USA. The LSAT-India is a special version of LSAT(R) - for candidates in India for admissions to law schools in India. LSAT-India is administered by Pearson VUE, the global leader in assessments and testing.

IIT Kharagpur's Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), set up in collaboration with the George Washington University Law School, has the unique distinction of being the only law school run by the IITs in India. The law school boasts of a Microsoft Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Property Research and Technology Policy, funded by Microsoft. The center represents a pioneering and unique partnership between industry and academia in the field of IP Law in India. Students of the law school have been placed with the leading global giants like General Electric, Siemens, Honeywell, Wipro, Infosys, IUS Juris etc. and with some of the best known firms in India like Amarchand Mangaldas, Lex Orbis, TVS group etc.

Welcoming the RGSOIPL, Mr. Daniel Bernstine, President, LSAC, said, "Adoption of the LSAT-India by IIT Kharagpur is a strong endorsement of the quality benchmarks established by the LSAT."

India's emergence as a knowledge superpower is making the practice of IP law a very promising and attractive career option for candidates from Science, Medicine, or Engineering backgrounds. Our decision to use the LSAT and LSAT-India as an admission criterion was based on its ability to measure key skills required for success in the law degree program at IIT Kharagpur. The IIT Kharagpur program offers international students a world-class education with extremely competitive tuition & other costs compare to a comparable global IP Law education elsewhere.

"Pearson VUE is excited about IIT Kharagpur's decision to adopt LSAT-India as an admission criteria to its law program," said Mr. Sarvesh Shrivastava, MD, Pearson VUE Asia Pacific. "This demonstrates the faith and confidence that leading institutes place in the LSAT-India test to measure abilities considered essential to study law."
