Jinghu to Highlight Modern Service Industry

2011-11-09 20:03 2611

JINGHU DISTRICT, WUHU CITY, China, November 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --More than a century ago, the southeastern Anhui province's Wuhu city was known to the world as one of China's trading ports under the Sino-British Chefoo Convention signed in 1876. But in fact, the city had been a regional business hub since Yuan Dynasty, which was 600 years before that.

The city, once a habitat of turtle-doves in the ancient times, today boasts its Jinghu district as the busiest trading area, where the infrastructure and transportation have been greatly improved over the past decades.

A number of the global leading retailers, including Wal-Mart have been attracted to the district.

"As many industry facilities are moving to the Wanjiang River side region, modern service must also follow up," said Lu Cangbao, party chief of the district. "Jinghu has always been an important business area of Wuhu city, and has a very good foundation of the service sector," he said.

"Also, with advantages of industrial bases, transportation and natural environment, the city has provided opportunities for Jinghu to develop the service sector," Lu added.

The local government aims to build the district into "a core area of modern service" in the next five years, which will cover business, tourism, culture and financing. A headquarter economy zone is also included in the plan.

They believe that the district is to be "a key economic engine in the Wanjiang River side region in near future".

Two annual business events held in Jinghu -- the shopping festival and the cuisine culture festival -- have attracted visitors from around the world. They have brought benefit to local companies, and promoted the city's friendly and welcoming image.
