SHANGHAI, July 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- METRO China announced the launch of the second Entrepreneur Star Awards today. This year the Awards focus on the restaurant industry, particularly small and independent restaurant startups with a good business plan and proven dedication to social responsibility. METRO China seeks to help these startups grow their business and better achieve long-term success.

The METRO Entrepreneur Star Awards was first launched in 2014. "Last year the Awards was a big success with full support from both our partners and a great number of participants, who shared innovative stories that encouraged and inspired us all," said Mr. Jeroen de Groot, President of METRO China. "This year we attach more importance to small and independent Chinese restaurants as one of our core customer groups. We will spare no effort in meeting their needs and supporting their business development, because we believe METRO grows only when our customers grow."

The 2015 Entrepreneur Star Awards targets small and independent Chinese restaurant startups that have opened their business in the last 12 months or are planning to open in the next 6 months. Eligible contestants can enter the competition by submitting their business proposals on METRO's official website (www.metro.cn) until July 31, 2015. Based on scores from online votes and a comprehensive review by the judges, 30 qualified contestants will be shortlisted to present their proposals in a second round of competition. Ultimately, 9 contestants will be selected in a final round. The first place winner will be announced in this October and awarded RMB 50,000 of startup capital, as well as products valued at RMB 50,000.

Food safety: fundamental for success

Food safety has always been one of the biggest concerns in the gastronomy sector, and METRO China has consistently provided solutions that help the industry address this challenge, win consumer trust, and establish credibility. As a business partner trusted for its leadership in quality and food safety, METRO China initiated the Entrepreneur Star Awards as a platform where startups can share their stories, encourage their peers and inspire each other to better handle the challenge of food safety.

To discover the "Entrepreneur Star" with the most potential, METRO China will engage an expert team of judges. These judges will review the qualities of each contestant based on innovation, vision, teamwork, as well as their approach to food safety.

The 2014 Entrepreneur Star Award's "Most Online Voted Award" winner, Mr. Wang Shuo, built his business by putting a modern spin on a traditional "lamb soup" delicacy. He is now the Founder & CEO of Zhengzhou Guo Guo, a successful food & catering brand operating over 20 chain restaurants. Looking back at his own startup days, he says, "For restaurant startups, there are certain challenges you have to deal with, including location, positioning, funding, sourcing and promotion. With sufficient tutoring and training, new entrepreneurs can get their business on track quickly, and I am glad to see METRO China is establishing such a platform to help more independent restaurant owners to make their dreams come true".

Sharing expertise and supporting innovation

METRO China is committed to being the "Champion for Independent Business", leveraging its expertise and experience to help independent businesses grow and win together. The 2015 Entrepreneur Star Awards will offer winners a series of training on areas such as recipe development, restaurant operations, cost control, marketing and sales, customer services, and legal issues.
