DEYANG, China, July 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today METRO China announced the grand opening of its new wholesale store in the "Heavy Duty Equipment Capital" of China - Deyang, Sichuan. The new store will help to accelerate METRO's development in China's western region and further tap into the potential of the local market.

"Deyang is a center for manufacturing, and the local economy has seen phenomenal growth in the past few years." says Jeroen de Groot, President of METRO China. "Aiming to be the Champion for Independent Business, METRO China is well positioned to support Deyang's growing number of small and medium-sized businesses by providing high-quality and safe products, as well as professional solutions and excellent services."

The new store is the eighth METRO store in West China. METRO first entered west China in 2001 by opening two stores in Chongqing and Chengdu respectively. The company opened its second store in Chongqing in 2013, which is also the wholesaler's 750th store worldwide. With the opening of the Deyang store, METRO will introduce its Cash & Carry new store concept, meanwhile its online store metromall.cn will also open to local customers on the same day to better meet their needs.

The transformation of an ancient city

Located in the upper-middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Deyang is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization. Today, it is a regional center in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, with convenient transportation, a well-developed manufacturing industry, and rich agriculture. With innovation driving Deyang's economic transformation and upgrading, a modern, livable and business-friendly city is on the rise.

With high-quality assortments, competitive wholesale prices, and professional services, METRO Deyang store provides highly-efficient, one-stop purchasing solutions for local customers. On the grand opening day of Deyang store, several local enterprises, such as Mingyuan Power Engineering and Huaxin signed purchasing contracts with METRO.

True to the wholesaler's commitment to local sourcing, METRO has built close relationships with local suppliers through deep roots established in Sichuan over the past years. Hengdu Beef and Luzhou Langjiu Liquor are among the best-selling products in METRO stores throughout the years. Local vegetables and fruits in Sichuan, including kiwi fruit, lemon and mango, are purchased and distributed to METRO stores nationwide through METRO's professional logistics system to provide authentic Sichuan flavor to the customers.

Setting a new standard in excellence

Located in the southern district of Deyang, METRO's new store covers a sales area of nearly 5,500 square meters, offering an assortment of over 19,200 items. As a leading international wholesaler, METRO provides a full range of high-quality food, such as meat, fish, fruit and vegetables delivered freshly to store every day, as well as dairy, dry goods, wine and liquor. On the grand opening day, the store holds various tasting sessions to provide customers with fantastic experience of famous domestic and imported products, and METRO's Own Brands.

The distinct feature of METRO Deyang store is the coldness in food related display areas, as cold chain is crucial to food freshness and high quality. The store has multi-temperature areas to meet the demand of different products, such as 0 Celsius - 4 Celsius for fresh meat, 5 Celsius - 7 Celsius for dairy products, etc. If customers want to walk into the cold storage areas to select products, they may borrow clean cotton-patted jackets, considerately prepared by the store for customers' convenience.

The store also sells a wide range of non-food products, including Seasonal, Kitchen, Cooking & Table, Apparel, Office & Media, and Business & Home Care, satisfying customers' various needs.

To meet expectations of the customers, especially small and independent businesses, METRO Deyang store adopts a wholesale pricing scheme. On top of the already competitive shelf prices, customers will receive 5% off if they buy 3 of the same item, and up to 20% off on 6 of the same on selected items, truly buying more with better prices.

To stay relevant to professional customers, METRO Deyang store features Cash & Carry new store concept, with elements such as METRO Café, Welfare & Gifting Showroom, Express Delivery, scan pole, information counter, etc. The store offers complementary Wi-Fi coverage for all customers to enjoy free internet access. The new store is also equipped with a delivery platform serving both the stationary store and METRO China's e-commerce channel, supporting the company's development of multi-channel strategy. Meanwhile, customers can enjoy a series of services, such as "Worry-Free Shopping", "Worry-Free Repair", and "Worry-Free METRO Mail", to further enhance purchasing experience.
