HONG KONG, July 15 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- UBM Asia, a subsidiary of United Business Media, and the Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, organisers of Marintec China, announced that the biennial exhibition would utilise Hall W1 to W4 of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from 1 - 4 December, 2009. Marintec China 2009 is expected to cover a total floor area of 46,000 sqm, a remarkable 26% increase over the 2007 edition of the show, itself a record.

"Crisis, Challenges and Opportunities" will be the main theme of the Senior Maritime Forum, one of the most important and authoritative maritime conferences in the world, which runs concurrently with Marintec China.

Marintec China 2009 will feature 18 national or regional and group pavilions this year, including pavilions representing Austria, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. For the first time, there will also be an official Taiwan pavilion at the fair. For the first time individual companies from Turkey will be exhibiting at the show. Other exhibiting companies are from Belgium, Canada, Greece, India, Italy, Portugal and Russia.

"I am delighted that the 2009 Marintec China -- the show's 15th edition and its 30th anniversary -- will be the largest ever show. Particularly given global economic conditions, Marintec China clearly has the whole-hearted support of the worldwide maritime industry as we seek to help the industry to thrive," said Jime Essink, President and Chief Executive Officer of UBM Asia.

China has been acclaimed for its effective management of the impact of the worldwide financial crisis. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) expects to have an annual capacity of 50 million Deadweight Tonnage (DWT) by 2011, accounting for 35% of the global total. In April, new orders reached 200,000 DWT, an increase of 7% over last year. MIIT also reported that the combined production capacity of Chinese shipyards is 28.81 million DWT, contributing 29.5% of the world's total.

Accelerating the development of Shanghai as an international shipping centre is a key ambition of the maritime community of China and the world, an ambition that is shared by the Chinese government. Mr Liu Tienan, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently announced that Shanghai has been selected for development into a global financial and shipping centre. The State Council has also expressed support for Shanghai's development as a global shipping hub to enable it to play a leading role in the international shipping industry by 2020.

The Marine sector has been supported by China's government as a key strategic component of China's rapid industrial and economic development over the course of the last 30 years. Now in its fifteenth edition Marintec China has grown alongside and in partnership with China's maritime industry. 2009's Marintec China will again provide the forum for international maritime industry professionals to meet, to do business and make new contacts as well as to hear about the latest industry trends and market information.
