-- Omnicell Will Host Local Educational Events to Support China Office Debut

BEIJING, Feb. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Omnicell Inc., (NASDAQ:OMCL), today announced that it is opening a new office in Beijing on February 27.  In celebration of the opening, Omnicell will host a series of events, starting with a professional educational seminar that has the support of the Beijing Pharmaceutical Association.  The seminar will be held the day of the office opening and the topic will be the use of medication automation in nursing wards.

The highlight of the educational seminar will be the presentation of data by Beijing area hospital clinicians analyzing their use of ward-based Omnicell® automated medication cabinets.  The clinicians will present their experiences with the Omnicell automation system, which helps ensure that medication items are accessible in the nursing units when patients need them, and creates a more secure and efficient medication distribution process.

The Omnicell system communicates with multiple hospital information systems, so medication ordering, dispensing, and billing are completely automated, helping to ensure accuracy and efficiency. The Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) securely store a wide variety of medications that are needed by each ward, and they connect to a server that links with the information systems. As medication orders for patients are prescribed by a physician and approved by the hospital pharmacist, they are automatically transmitted from the hospital pharmacy to the ADCs on the nursing ward.  A built-in touch screen computer interface on the ADC allows nurses to see the medication orders for each patient and remove the approved medications.  All transactions completed at the ADCs in the nursing wards are transmitted back to the server and recorded for future reporting, which helps improve inventory management and control.

Omnicell has been a leader in medication and supply automation for over 20 years in the United States and is in use in more than 20 countries worldwide.  Automated dispensing cabinets have been installed in nearly 90% of U.S. acute care hospitals, and Omnicell technology has been used in leading hospitals in China since 2011. Omnicell products have been consistently honored with awards from KLAS, a leading health care technology research firm that measures vendor performance.

"The opening of the Beijing office will help to support our continued growth in China and further demonstrates our commitment to customers in this region," said Marga Ortigas-Wedekind, Omnicell executive vice president, global marketing and product development.  "We are excited to hear clinicians at our educational events discuss how integrating Omnicell products is helping to improve their workflow."
