SHANGHAI, July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- To celebrate its 35th anniversary in Greater China, Panalpina is launching the "OSOD" - One Shipment One Dollar donation campaign - to ship and share our love with schoolchildren in China.

Panalpina, one of the world's leading suppliers of forwarding and logistics services, will donate CNY1 per shipment order from or to Greater China cities, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, between June 1, 2011 - May 31, 2012 to the OSOD campaign. The total amount collected will be donated to a Hong Kong non-profit charity organisation called Sowers Action and will be used to reconstruct a school in Gansu province, China, providing the children with a safe environment to study and bringing new hope to the young generation.

The school will be named "Bao An Panalpina Sowers Action Project Hope Primary School". Construction is scheduled for completion between 2012 and 2013.

Panalpina opened its first office in Hong Kong 35 years ago. It has since been committed to local growth in Greater China. Panalpina consider corporate social responsibility crucial to sustainability and it demonstrates our commitment to Greater China with a special focus on young people, health, education and the environment.

Sowers Action

"Sowers Action" was registered in Hong Kong in 1992 (Tax Exemption No.: 91/3859) as a non-lucrative charity organization having no religious or political affinity. The significance of its name is, while seeds and seedlings that need to be sown and nurtured refer to children, sowers naturally refer to those who sow the seeds and nurture the seedlings by providing them with assistance. Through concrete action, such as financing the re-construction of dangerous school buildings and planning the upgrade of teachers' quality and ability, the sowers endeavor to help children of China's impoverished mountainous regions to resume schooling by creating for them a save environment for studying. Following the working guidelines of "On-the-spot investigation, direct assistance and long-term follow-up", Sowers Action must ascertain that all donations received are put to effective use. Our target is to assist in the development of impoverished localities in China, with the view of enabling the people there to become self-reliant. Our development strategy is "Help people to help themselves", our slogan is "Education is the cure to poverty". Sowers Action believes that China's progress resides in turning the burden of its huge population into effective intellectual resources.
