SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Summit on Global Solar Energy Development was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Silicon Valley, U.S., on the afternoon of August 3rd. This summit was a special session of the 2017 International E-Commerce Innovation (ECI) Festival and the US-China E-commerce Innovation (ECI) Summit. Han Shengping, senior vice president of Hanergy Thin Film Power Group, attended the summit along with some other senior executives, introducing Hanergy's innovative technologies and warmly welcoming any possible cooperation on innovation. Guests including Menlo Park mayor Kirsten Keith delivered speeches and attended roundtable discussions. The lively atmosphere was felt throughout the summit until it ended in the early evening and guests then eagerly visited the Hanergy exhibition hall.

Han Shengping, senior vice president of the Hanergy Thin Film Power Group, mentioned in his speech that interregional cooperation is the most important mechanism for innovation. He said that globalization is shifting from its first stage of trade and production to the second stage focused on innovation. One major trend in the global innovation movement is that regions are replacing countries as the main players, and regional innovation climates within industrial clusters are accelerating technological progresses and commercialization. Where there is much innovation there is also active interregional entrepreneurship, which is considered the highest stage and prominent form of global linkage. Hanergy came to the heart of world innovation and entrepreneurship to learn from others, seek opportunities for cooperation, and explore more innovative business models with its counterparts.

As an honored guest of the summit, Kirsten Keith introduced in her speech Menlo Park's ambition and achievements in terms of emission reduction and solar energy application. Menlo Park started to make a climate action plan and improve city facilities back in 2009, and last year, the city installed solar systems on a number of well-known buildings. Over the past two decades, the government has saved 461,000 USD in public energy spending, and cut 419 tons of carbon emissions.

In recent months, the Menlo Park government, along with some nonprofit organizations and Facebook, has installed solar panels for 20-odd households and electric car charging piles for many households for free, aiming to encourage electric car purchases. The current purchasing rate of electric cars in Menlo Park is 14%, a rather high proportion even across the U.S. where electric vehicles are well recognized. In addition, the government also plans to improve infrastructures for bicycles so as to encourage people to choose this clean and environmentally friendly mean of transportation.

When President Donald Trump announced plans to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, the Menlo Park government led by Keith responded to it with a statement, saying it would continue to adhere to the Paris Agreement. In July this year, the government passed a bill, setting the goal of relying entirely on renewable energy in the city by 2030. Keith was very confident that they might achieve that goal before 2030.

Located in the northern part of Santa Clara, Menlo Park is a high-tech Silicon Valley town with a population of 33,000 and home to the headquarters of many world-renowned technology companies, such as Facebook. It also boasts more capital venture funds than any place in the world. Keith's speech showed that Menlo Park is leading the world in cutting greenhouse gas emissions and employing new energy. Her speech greatly inspired and encouraged Hanergy's senior executives and other guests by giving us an accessible bright future, centered round the popularization of new energies.

After the summit, Keith and other guests visited Hanergy's exhibition hall set up at the venue. They were interested in Hanergy's innovative thin-film solar energy products, such as the Hantile and solar-powered UAV, and were given detailed product information and learned about Hanergy's technological innovation capacity. Han Shengping gave a Hanergy 15W Solar Charger to Kirsten Keith as a gift, inviting her to experience Hanergy's cutting-edge technology. As an active user and advocator of clean energy, Keith drove her electric car to the summit venue, and she also installed solar panels at home. She accepted Hanergy's gift with pleasure and gratitude. Han Shengping and Kirsten Keith also said that they were expecting further cooperation in new energy application and promotion.

Hanergy is a globalized clean energy company with a wide business reach. Currently, the company has three wholly owned subsidiaries in North America, namely: MiaSole, Alta Devices, and Global Solar Energy (GSE). Hanergy acquired the three between 2012 and 2013, two of which are situated in the Silicon Valley. The three companies used to be world-leading thin-film solar companies, and after their acquisition, they showed even greater vitality thanks to Hanergy's substantial influx of capital and resources. As a result, the conversion efficiencies of cells of different technological paths have been breaking world records. For example, Alta Devices' double junction cells (31.6%) and single junction cells (28.8%) keep two world records; the designed efficiency of MiaSole's cells is 19.4%, and the efficiency of MiaSole's winner module from the new generation process reaches 18%, currently the highest efficiency for sputtering CIGS flexible modules in the world; Solibro's top mass production modules reach an efficiency of 16.97%, which sets the world record for mass-produced co-evaporation CIGS modules.

Alta Device's GaAs cell is mainly applied to satellites, space aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles and high-end solar-powered cars. The flexible thin-film modules of MiaSole and Solibro have been put into mass production and are publicized as an innovative Hanergy product in the fields of distributed solar energy and mobile energy.
