LCD TV shipments in December hit a monthly high of 1.27 million units
HONG KONG, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Multimedia" or the "Group"; HKSE: 01070) today announced monthly shipment data for its TV and AV products in December and the whole year of 2009.
The Group's LCD TV shipments in 2009 reached 8.42 million units, a remarkable increase of 101% over 2008. The growth rate substantially exceeded the market average. LCD TV shipments in December soared by 112% year-on-year to 1.27 million units, hitting a record monthly high for 2009 by sales volume. In the PRC market, LCD TV shipments for 2009 jumped 215.8% compared to last year.
The Group has taken various measures to improve the competitiveness of its products and has benefited from the gradual recovery of the global economy, and sales performance of LCD TVs was very promising both in domestic and overseas markets. During December, MiTV Internet TVs were the top selling product in the China market, with its sales volume increased by more than 83.5% over that in October (including the Chinese National Holidays sales peak season). Moreover, total LCD TV shipments in North America and Emerging Markets jumped by 169% and 595% respectively during the same period. LCD TV shipments to Europe increased by 61% over the corresponding period in 2008.
For 2009, AV product shipments maintained stable growth and increased 26% year-on-year to 21.26 million units.
