MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --

TVU Networks, technology leader in live TV over Internet, is pleased to announce that TVBS, major satellite television channel and nationwide cable TV network, has deployed the TVUPack across Taiwan.

The TVUPack is an ultra-portable electronic news-gathering device.  It uses wireless infrastructure, backed up by solid-state storage that captures high-quality footage when no data connection is available.  The TVUPack is a fully self-contained content capture and broadcast solution with its own on-board power and data transmission capability.  Simple to operate, with the press of a single ‘On’ button, the signal goes live in the newsroom within 45 seconds.  Latency is as little as 2 seconds.

Using TVU’s Inverse StatMux technology, the TVUPack delivers broadcast quality signals by leveraging multiple 3G/ WiFi connections.  Its flexible external modem connections allow it to advance to 4G/ WiMAX without replacing any hardware.

The TVUPack enables TVBS to dramatically expand their news-gathering capabilities.  Weighing just 13 pounds, the TVUPack allows a field team to go anywhere and get breaking news fast.  The TVUPack captures news in locations not previously accessible to reporting teams, such as from within crowds of people.

Widely deployed by many major media companies and news organizations, the TVUPack is being used in countries and regions including the United States, Mainland China, Hong Kong, South Africa, Brazil, Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom.  The TVUPack has allowed news organizations around the world to provide live coverage of key events, including the 2010 World Cup, 2010 Shanghai Expo, and even the breaking news surrounding the Times Square car-bomb.

Mr. Jim Lin, Manager of the Engineering Department at TVBS states, "The TVUPack allows us to cover more ground with our reporters and fits perfectly into our budget, enabling us to use four TVUPacks in the place of a single van for the same price.  We have evaluated many solutions leveraging 3G and WiFi infrastructures.  Unlike many other solutions which deliver "Skype-like" picture quality, the TVUPack delivers broadcast quality which matches today's SNG picture quality.  Its internal storage and high speed transfer enables us to bring breaking news immediately to our newsroom, even when 3G connections are limited.  The TVUPack, which we are deploying in three cities, will be a leading force in news coverage of the upcoming campaigns and election in Taiwan.  We are excited that we will be empowered by this next-generation technology to be the first ones on the scene and deliver the news quickly.”
