Researchers from the China Business Research Center of Tsinghua University said, many types of research have been made to study the brand value of Chinese enterprises, yet little has been done to analyze specifically the brand value of Chinese listed companies.

The lists aim at helping Chinese listed companies better understand the development status of the brand value of Chinese enterprises so as to provide them with reference concerning how to dynamically track the investment performance of brands and raise the efficiency of brand management.

Judging from the theoretic basis and authoritativeness, the lists embody the academic accumulation of China Business Research Center of Tsinghua University, gather the practice and intelligence of over 30 experts from over 20 industries and NBD's long-term observation on Chinese listed companies. The lists are the crystallization of theories, data and think tanks.

A total of 4,344 companies were selected and assessed. The brand value is calculated based on companies' market cap, business earning, brand ration and brand potential.

According to researchers from China Business Research Center of Tsinghua University, the Research Center is able to calculate the brand value of any Chinese listed companies based on related data. Companies which are not on the list can consult the list about brand building.

Dark horses emerge to prominence

The banking sector has contributed 13 enterprises to the list, which is followed by the real estate sector (10) and the food & beverage sector (8).

However, the brand value of companies varies widely. According to the list, the top 5 enterprises alone have contributed to 53.3% of the total brand value. That is, the lower their rankings are, the less contribution they have made.

Notably, some little-known companies have also made it on the list. For example, the Guangdong Huanong Wens Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd outperformed well-established New Hope Group. Besides, the brand value of VIP.com, a latecomer in the e-commerce industry, is also ranking high.

Market value is in direct proportion to brand value

The market value of an enterprise is in direct proportion to its brand value. For instance, the market value of Tencent Holdings, China Mobile, and Alibaba is approximately 1608.1 billion yuan ($233.4 billion), 1505.5 billion yuan ($218.5 billion) and 1455.0 billion yuan ($211.2 billion), respectively. Their brand value accounts for 38.64%, 38.89%, and 36.89%, respectively, of their total market cap.

It is concluded from the list that the brand value of an enterprise, in some way, can help bolster its market value.
