BANGKOK, May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire./ -- UBM Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has partnered with leading state energy agencies, including the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, the Ministry of Energy, the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment, the Renewable Energy Industry Club, The Federation of Thai Industries, and The Thai Chamber of Commerce, to organise Renewable Energy Asia 2014, which will take place from 4-7 June 2014 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC). The event will focus on preparing entrepreneurs in the industrial sector for the upcoming energy crisis and promote renewable energy as a way to ensure Thailand's energy security.

Chairman of UBM Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Mr. Manu Leopairote, said, "According to the 'World Energy Outlook 2013' by the Ministry of Energy and the International Energy Agency (IEA), Southeast Asia's economy will grow threefold, leading to an increase in future energy consumption. The proportion of Thailand's gas import is expected to rise to 90% from 25%. The kingdom's oil import is also expected to grow from 60% to over 90% within 15 years (2030). These factors and the fact that the county's economic growth and energy consumption rank second in the region, following only Indonesia, make Thailand the most vulnerable country in the Southeast  Asia, in terms of energy security. Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar have vast sources of natural gas (LPG), which are large enough to support domestic consumption and exports to Thailand and some other countries. Furthermore, Vietnam is taking measures to reduce its energy dependence by constructing its own nuclear power plant."

Mr. Manu added, "When the ASEAN Economic Community takes effect, Thailand will be one of the favoured destinations among foreign investors. However, the problem that needs to be urgently fixed is energy security, which is a fundamental of economic growth. UBM realises that applying technology to create renewable energy and a sustainable environment is important for Thai industry. As such, it has organised Renewable Energy Asia 2014 and Entech Pollutec Asia, Boilex Asia and Pumps & Valves Asia, making the largest and most comprehensive exhibition on renewable energy and environmental technology in Asia. This year's event has grown by 30% since last year and will bring together 400 companies from Thailand and 30 other countries across the globe. The exhibition will include country pavilions from Germany, Singapore, Japan, Mainland China, Taiwan and South Korea. In addition, the event will host the world's top-ten solar companies and be supported by agencies from the upstream to the downstream of the renewable energy industry. One of the event's aims is to find solutions that will create energy security for Thailand."

Deputy Director-general of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Dr. Thawarat Sutabutr said, "Renewable Energy Asia 2014 and Entech Pollutec Asia 2014 are ASEAN's best events for showing the potential of renewable energy, ways the government sector can offer supportive policies for investment in renewable energy and Thailand's investment potential. The event covers all energy-related and environmental aspects. As such, following the Renewable Energy Development Plan (2008-2022) by the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, it provides a good opportunity to create cooperation among the government, private and academic sectors, expand business and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs from all industries and support the use of renewable energy in Thailand."

At the event, the department will present supportive policies for renewable energy investments that are suitable for each area in Thailand, particularly the north-eastern part. Based on Thailand's energy potential maps, this area has vast potential for solar and wind energy. Government-supported investment projects at the community level, such as the Napier grass-based electricity-production project, one of the study projects on green energy community enterprises from energy crops, which aims to produce at least 1 MW per year of Napier-grass-fired power, and the Solar Rooftop project, which is now drawing attention from both the household and industrial sectors, will also be showcased to increase energy investment opportunities for entrepreneurs."

Mr. Manu concluded by saying, "Renewable Energy Asia 2014 will also offer interesting seminars, such as 'The 10th International Renewable Energy Asia 2014: Smart Energy for Smart ASEAN' seminar, which will be organised by the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE). Furthermore, this year's international conference on energy and the environment will bring together Thai and international scholars and experts to discuss energy matters. In addition, 'Energy Talk: Increasing Efficiency for Energy Use in Business and Industrial Sectors' will be held by the Energy Committee of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the 'Industrial Safety 2014' seminar will be led by the Department of Industrial Works. Moreover, the 'Thai Renewable Energy: High Opportunity' seminar by the Renewable Energy Industry Club and the Federation of Thai Industries and over 100 discussions and activities to promote the expansion of knowledge on energy will take place at the event."

Renewable Energy Asia 2014, ASEAN's biggest renewable energy exhibition, will be held along with Entech Pollutec Asia 2014, Boilex Asia 2014 and Pumps & Valves Asia 2014, from 4-7 June 2014 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC).
