NEW YORK, February 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today is a special day for the Chinese in New York, as today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. Compared with previous years, this year's Lunar New Year is a warmer one for the Chinese of New York, as they receive wishes from KUKA HOME, a Chinese furniture brand, on the large screens overlooking New York's Times Square today.

A short video featuring wishes from KUKA HOME was simultaneously displayed on both the NASDAQ and Thomson Reuters boards that overlook New York's Times Square and attracted the attention not only of members of the vast overseas Chinese community but also that of New Yorkers passing through the square. "This is a video clip featuring New Year wishes, as today is Chinese New Year's Eve," a Chinese passerby explained. "Chinese New Year, more commonly referred to as Spring Festival in Chinese, is of unusual significance to every Chinese person, and that is why so many Chinese New Yorkers return to China or to one of New York's several Chinatowns to celebrate the day. Although I've been used to celebrating the New Year without firecrackers in New York over the years, I'm extremely excited to receive these wishes from my home country today. More than anything, I wish I could have gone back to China to spend the holiday with my parents."

As the video clip was shown time and time again, an increasing number of Chinese onlookers gathered in the famed square. Some were seen taking pictures of the message as it played on the screens, while others excitedly called home.

Many of New York's denizens passing through the square said they didn't understand at the very beginning why so many Chinese people were gathering here. After they found out that it is Chinese New Year today and that the video featuring wishes from China is being shown on the screens above, they expressed gratitude to the country that did not forget the members of its wide and far-ranging diaspora on such a momentous day. The Chinese in New York not only work hard, they also are united. Finally, the New Yorkers passing through the square also wished their newfound Chinese friends a happy New Year, and wished they could spend more time with their families.

Similar video clips featuring wishes for the Chinese New Year were also displayed in London, Paris, Tokyo and Shanghai, in addition to New York. The giver of the wishes, KUKA HOME, is a Chinese furniture manufacturer that advocates a corporate culture of "home and warmth".
