When Science Technology Encounters Art and Climate: The 2nd Shenzhen (International) Science Film Week Opens

SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Exhibitions on virtual reality, hardware and AI, technological calligraphy, as well as the screening of films on science and science education... Such a visual feast of culture and art with technology, film and humanity, has been presented at the 2nd Shenzhen (International) Science Film Week, which, with the theme "The Eyes of the Future", kicked off at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Planning Exhibition on September 17th.

Organized by China Association for Science and Technology and Shenzhen Municipal Government, the event is innovative, high-end, special and interesting as it continues the former theme of "Future" and combines science, technology, culture, film etc. It comprises of seven categories and twelve topics, including the Handle Climate Change Film Festival (HCCFF), 30th Anniversary of China Science Film Kelei Cup 2017, Morning Star & Water Drop -- China Original Science Fiction Contest, innovation and entrepreneurship competition, intelligent technology exhibition, science and culture exhibition, technology photographer contest, and screening of films for popularization of science. From 17th to 24th September, the event exudes the charm of Shenzhen, a city of innovation, with a perfect integration of science and film, and that of science and humanity.

The event also offers more choices for the public to watch films on science and science education through collecting, demonstration, screening and appraisal by the organizing committee. During the HCCFF, over 1,600 science films from 102 countries will be appraised and the award-winning films will be screened at the China Pavilion of the Bonn Climate Change Conference in November this year.

Green Path, a film that captures the stories related to low carbon achievement of Shenzhen, together with other five award-winning films in the 1st Handle Climate Change Film Festival 2015 were screened at the UN climate change conferences in both 2015 and 2016. The act reflects China's active response to climate change and contributions to global climate governance, which are drawing international attention.

Deputy mayor of Shenzhen Wu Yihuan pointed out in his speech at the opening ceremony that the Science Film Week, which showcases the fruit of technological innovation and the culture of Shenzhen, would bridge the gap between Shenzhen and the world, between the general public and technological innovation. It would also boost the technological innovation and the science education in Shenzhen.
