Kilpatrick Townsend Continues Growth in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Harold Chen and Yan Qi have joined the firm's Shanghai office as associates and will be members of the firm's Mergers & Acquisitions and Securities Team. Mr. Chen and Ms. Qi are coming to Kilpatrick Townsend from the Shanghai office of Fredrikson & Byron.

The addition of Mr. Chen and Ms. Qi comes after Gentry Sayad joined the Shanghai office as a partner and Co-Chair of the firm's Asia Practice in June. Please click here for more information.

Mr. Chen's practice focuses on assisting international companies in issues relating to launching and conducting businesses in China. This includes structuring investment, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial contracts, expat relocation, employment management, trade unions, FCPA/compliance investigation and training, and dispute settlement. Additionally, Mr. Chen concentrates his practice on corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, Sino-foreign joint ventures, and corporate restructurings. He has experience working on commercial contracts and dispute resolution for companies in a variety of industries. Mr. Chen also assists clients on a variety of employment-related issues, including termination of contracts, severance negotiations, labor arbitrations, drafting and reviewing labor contracts, employee handbooks and other human resources policies, and employment of expatriates.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Chen was a senior associate with another U.S.-based international law firm. He also practiced as a licensed Chinese lawyer representing clients in criminal and civil litigation matters.

Mr. Chen earned a J.M. from East China University of Politics and Law, an LL.M. from University of Warwick School of Law, an M.A. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and a B.A. from Soochow University.

Ms. Qi is experienced in various legal aspects of foreign direct investment in China, China's outbound investment and general corporate issues. She focuses her practice on cross-border transactions including mergers and acquisitions, foreign-invested enterprise formation, corporate restructurings, real estate and construction projects, as well as intellectual property protection. Ms. Qi has been the de facto China legal director for numerous multinational companies across manufacturing, trading, and insurance services industries.

Ms. Qi also conducts FCPA/compliance training and investigations for western companies including Fortune 100 and 500 entities. In addition, she is a Chinese CPA candidate and frequently advises multinational enterprises on China tax planning.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Qi was an attorney at JunZeJun Law Offices, one of the oldest and largest Chinese law firms.

Ms. Qi is active in the legal and business community. She is a member of the Society of International Economic Law and the China Trademark Association and has written and presented on numerous legal issues.

Ms. Qi earned an LL.M. from King's College London, an LL.M. from Tsinghua University, an LL.B. from Southwest University of Political Science and Law and a B.A. from Sichuan International Studies University.
