HONG KONG, Jan. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

- 78% employees have enjoyed a pay increase in the past 12 months
- 2 in 3 employees are seeking a new role
- Job satisfaction / career development is the most important aspect of work

For HR professionals, Hong Kong and the APAC region represent a fast-moving employment market. The REED 2015 Salary Survey and Market Insight report reveals many positive trends but also highlights a number of challenges faced by companies and organisations seeking to recruit and retain quality personnel.

Leading Trends

Hong Kong's strong 2014 economic performance is set to continue and expand throughout 2015 with estimated growth between two and three per cent. As a consequence, Hong Kong continues to attract significant levels of foreign investment, further fuelling expansion and a buoyant jobs market across many market sectors. The financial sector maintains its strength, while the digital marketing, e-commerce and sales & marketing sectors are seeing positive labour movements. Hong Kong has also witnessed an increase in government activity, particularly in infrastructure projects, which has fuelled growth in the property and construction jobs market. Companies and organisations face several challenges whilst attempting to resource, however the recent political unrest centred in Hong Kong has not, as yet, significantly dampened the employment market.

"From the data collect as part of the survey, the market outlook for 2015 seems very positive with many companies having the confidence to expand in the year ahead," said by Nick Fenn, the REED Country Manager for Hong Kong.

A Candidate-led Market

Like all major economic centres experiencing growth, Hong Kong suffers from a shortage of high-calibre candidates across many sectors.

  • 72% of employees claim to be currently seeking a new role
  • 48% of employees have changed employment between four and six times
  • 36% move roles to advance careers
  • 65% use online jobsites to find roles

"Candidates are as usual in short supply so it will remain a competitive marketplace for firms to attract and retain talent - in addition to pay and career development they also need to focus on training and development, branding, vision and culture," Nick Fenn said.
