3rd Year in a Row German Film Wins Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival

BEIJING, June 30 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- For the third time in row, a German film received an award at the closing night of the Shanghai International Film Festival. After the success of FOUR MINUTES (Jin Jue Award for Best Film) in 2006 and ACCORDING TO PLAN (Jin Jue Award for Best Film, and for Best Actress) in 2007, MY MOTHER'S TEARS has won this year's Jin Jue Award for Best Cinematography (DoP Florian Schilling).

The fourth annual FOCUS GERMANY was just as successful as the German Films in the competition. The opening film of FOCUS GERMANY was BLIND SPOT. Director Tom Zenker, actress Henriette Schmidt and producer Jakob Claussen presented the film to an enthusiastic audience in the sold-out screening hall.

More than 20 German films screened in various sections of the festival and 10 directors traveled to Shanghai to present their films and answer audience questions. The interest in German films in China has clearly increased, along with their success at the box office. The box office success of FINAL CUT (Focus Germany 2006) proves how much Chinese audiences like German cinema.

The German directors Jan Bonny (Counterparts), Pepe Danquart (No Limit), Miriam Dehne (Little Paris), Rainer Kaufmann (Runaway Horse) and Marc Meyer (Family Rules) were warmly received by the audience and the discussions after the screenings were very exciting.

This year, German Films in cooperation with Swiss Films also organized the Focus on Female Filmmakers seminar with the Shanghai International Film Festival and the Shanghai Critics Association. The discussions between the German, Swiss and Chinese female filmmakers on this topic were very lively.

German Films looks forward to supporting the success of the German films at the Shanghai International Film Festival and thanks all the partners and supporters of the event.
