The BFA, held in the town of Boao in Hainan Island in South China, is a prestigious and premier forum for leaders in government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share visions. The theme of this year's forum was "Asia's New Future: Toward a Community of Common Destiny."

Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Haji Abdullah Ahmad Badawi served as the Prime Minister of Malaysia from 2003 to 2009.  Since Malaysia launched its special economic zone, the Multimedia Super Corridor, in 1996, the country has been seeking ways to further boost its digital economy, an area in which Tencent is recognized as a pioneer in China. The two men discussed how the Internet can support the economic development of a country and the key elements needed in order for businesses to be successful in the era of digitalization and mobility. They also exchanged ideas on the support the private sector can provide in developing a nation's Internet policy.

"Tencent was the first to propose and champion Internet+, a campaign to foster a healthy ecosystem that connects leading players from many sectors of the traditional industries which provide Internet users with an expanding range of products and services," said SY Lau. "Internet+' aims to make life more convenient and enjoyable for users, and to make doing business easier for companies in the ecosystem."

"It was my honor to meet with Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the BFA to discuss the latest trends in the digital economy, the concurrent development of the mobile Internet, and what these trends might mean for Malaysia," SY Lau remarked.
