HONG KONG, April 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL Express, the world's leading international express service provider, has been recognized by leading human capital organization Top Employers Institute as a top employer in Hong Kong.

The Top Employers certification is awarded to organizations that achieve the highest standards of excellence in employee conditions. The evaluation features a five-step process including a best practice survey, followed by a validation and an external audit. Performance scores are rated against an international standard. Only employers that achieve the required level will qualify for certification.

DHL Express Hong Kong was also certified by Great Place to Work® Institute as one of the 2014 Best Companies to Work for® in Greater China -- a significant endorsement of the company's efforts in becoming an employer of choice. A total of 75 companies representing around 130,000 employees in the region participated in the assessment, and fewer than 15 companies managed to attain the recognition.

"Our strength and the quality of our network and services depend crucially on the contribution and success of our key asset -- our 2,000 employees in Hong Kong. Employee engagement is a top priority for us, and we are pleased that our dedication is recognized by these awards," said Ken Lee, Executive Vice President, Commercial, Asia Pacific and Managing Director for Hong Kong and Macau, DHL Express. "At DHL, we believe every individual's contribution counts and we are strongly committed to ensuring our employees realize their full potential."

DHL also bagged another 14 accolades in Asia Pacific, including the "Aon Hewitt Best Employer Asia Pacific" 2015, which is given to companies who have won Aon Hewitt awards in at least three countries across the region. DHL Express has exceeded this achievement with a total of six countries and regions; namely China, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand, on top of winning the "Top Employers Award" 2015 in Asia Pacific.

DHL places great importance in employee engagement, measuring its performance through the annual Employee Opinion Survey (EOS), a short and confidential questionnaire that all employees complete stating their engagement and satisfaction levels. The latest survey in Hong Kong showed an improvement across all aspects year-on-year over the same period.

The company also invests significantly in its award-winning internal training and development platforms, Certified International Specialist (CIS) and Certified International Manager (CIM), where over 100,000 employees worldwide have been trained. Employees are trained on company strategy, fundamentals of international shipping and management skills such as ensuring respect and results while interacting with colleagues. All its 2,000 Hong Kong employees have finished the CIS foundation program and are continuing with other different modules, while 100% of eligible employees have completed the CIM part 1 program.

Staff Appreciation Weeks are organized during which the company expresses gratitude to employees through bonding activities such as buffet lunch served by management, movie day, teatime gathering and Central Asia Hub open day. DHL Express Hong Kong also leads the industry with a number of employee benefits including the UPstairs Scholarship that supports the children of employees in pursuing better education, as well as other family-friendly measures including 5-day paternity leave, retirement age extension and sports & recreation activities.
