The game app has been released in select countries and regions, including Japan, since earlier this month, topping 200,000 downloads in just the first six days of release. It has also been released on Google Play in the U.S. and Hong Kong.

- How to play

"Hunger Quest" is a puzzle RPG, set in the world of fantasy, nostalgic and warm, which appears to be easy to pick up but is actually pretty hard to master. By solving puzzles, together with fantasy town inhabitants and co-players of the world, the player becomes a hero to save the world, conquering dungeons, with all sorts of monsters and traps waiting in every bend, and eventually overthrowing the Satan lurking in the deepest part of the fantasy world.

All that the player has to do to battle enemies in dungeons is simple: connect the same colored tiles to get rid of them. The player thus cuts a way to proceed, beating monsters, evading traps and picking up items and materials in the process.

Dungeons are randomly generated, with colored tiles arranged differently each time. The player will have to think a step or two ahead before making a move, taking into consideration tile arrangement as well as enemy monsters' positions and characteristics. The player will have a fun, an intelligent one, in mulling over methods of attack in addition to the sense of achievement from solving puzzles.

There are seven major dungeons types, including three that come with the initial download and another three that can be added upon update as needed, each with a unique story which unfolds as the player proceeds. In the far depth of dungeons, the player finally squares off with the gigantic Saturn in an intense battle far more compelling than the ones against monsters.

The player who bumps into a "coffin" in dungeons can connect with other game players. The connected players can enjoy a feel of fighting together, though loosely, as they are allowed to send each other "vitality" needed to continue to play the game and borrow each other's skill to challenge dungeons. The connected players may also feel competitive upon seeing each other's progress shown in real time on the screen. Furthermore, the player can hook up with Facebook and play with friends there.

- Plenty of optional functions

"Hunger Quest" comes with the "EveryPlay" function that makes the making of a play video nothing but easy. With just the recording function kept on, all dungeon battles will be automatically recorded for a player to review them afterword or share them with friends on SNS. Moreover, by using the mobile device's camera and microphone, the player can easily make a live feed of him or her playing the game.

In addition, the game can be configured to change the language between English and Japanese, correct color vision, and change to a power-saving mode.

- Free "donut" campaign under way

Players logging in during the designated campaign period will get free donuts and jewels, once per day, which are difficult to obtain in normal circumstances. The donuts include the "magical donut" to give a new skill upon eating, the "happy donut" to give a 10-step level increase, and the "golden donut" and "platinum donut" to be sold at high prices.
