HONG KONG, Aug. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hong Kong, as the main entrepot of the Mainland China and Taiwan markets, is the largest export market for Japan's food products. Last year, the export of Japanese agricultural, fisheries and food products amounted to 611.7 billion yen (about HK$38.6 billion), with exports to Hong Kong totalling 134.3 billion yen (about HK$8.48 billion), representing 22% of the export sales. In order to further promote Japanese food, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), with the support of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF), is organizing "Oishii Japanese Food" in-store promotion event at AEON Kornhill Store from 12 August, during which food ingredients and food products originating from 26 prefectures of Japan will be sold. Most of these products are introduced to the Hong Kong market for the first time.

JETRO Hong Kong announced that among the 32 companies and organizations participating in the in-store promotion event at AEON Kornhill Store, 24 are exhibitors at the Japan Pavilion at HKTDC's Food Expo from 13 to 15 August this year. The Japan Pavilion, which is also organized by JETRO for five consecutive years, aims to promote Japanese food to local and international buyers and to boost export sales. This year, a record-breaking 154 exhibitors (149 exhibitors for last year) will join the Japan Pavilion, showcasing a wide range of agricultural and fishery products including seasoning, processed food, tea, wine and functional food to local buyers. Through the synergy of these two food events, JETRO hopes to enhance its marketing and sale strategies to further open up more markets and create new business opportunities. JETRO also stated that the government of Japan would invest substantial resources to promote the export of agricultural, fisheries and food products, aiming to achieve total global export sales of 1 trillion yen (about HK$63.3 billion) by 2020. In addition to Hong Kong, JETRO in association with MAFF will launch in-store promotions in six countries worldwide this year, including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, America and England.

During "Oishii Japanese Food" in-store promotion, 72 items are featured including frozen food, seafood, processed meat, vegetables, rice, seasoning, pickled food, and "sixth industrialized products" which are produced by fishers and farmers (first industry) taking the roles of  manufacturers (secondary industry) and retailers (tertiary industry). Through the "sixth industrialization", instead of mass production and circulation, new food-processing methods and market channels are developed to provide high value-added products from producers to consumers directly.
