SINGAPORE, Nov. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wifi Master Key (https://goo.gl/BLA6zG), an app that lets users crowdsource login credentials for WiFi hotspots, has been seen as the top of Google Play's tools app chart in Mexico since 20 Nov - the first time this app claims the spot in Latin America.

In the past three months, the free app, which lets users easily and safely connect to WiFi hotspots shared by other users, has been at the top of the tools app chart in 13 countries or regions, four months after the app expanded overseas from its base.

The other countries and regions include Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Serbia, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and most recently, Russia and Indonesia.

The app's recent success in Mexico shows it can be the next big thing in Latin America, widely said to be the next big mobile Internet battleground. During the first quarter of 2015, the Latin American smartphone market grew by 25%, year on year, and by 4% compared with the previous quarter, according to a recent study by Counterpoint Technology Market Research.

Latin America is poised to emerge as one of the most important regions in the global market for mobile telephony, according to a recent studies by the GSMA, the international association of mobile service providers.

In 2014, smartphones represented 32% of all phone connections in Latin America. But by 2020, the devices are expected to make up 68% of all phone connections in the region, the association estimates.

As of October, the fast-growing app also saw the number of monthly active users leaping to 360 million, and an average of 40 million connections were made every day.
