"In Milan, Italy, students are immersed in the birthplace and world capital of design, while San Diego offers a contemporary view of design's influence on technology, lifestyle and sustainability, so it really is the best of both worlds," said Alberto Bonisoli, Chief Academic Officer and Interim Domus Academy Head of Institute. "The collaboration between The Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool in California and Domus Academy in Italy is so much more than a typical bachelor's degree; this truly global experience will open more doors—to students' own creativity, to career possibilities, and to the world, providing firsthand knowledge of two design cultures and expand contacts within the international marketplace."

In both countries, students will take courses taught by industry experts to build theoretical foundation and apply classroom knowledge while creating actual projects with real companies. Students have worked directly with  renowned companies such as BMW Design Group, Crea International, Sound United, Elica, Fiat, Swenyo, Frog Design, FutureBrand, La Triennale di Milano, Matteo Thun & Partners, Pambianco, RCS Media Group, Studio Urquiola, Co-merge, and Whirlpool.

The two universities also collaborate for a San Diego-based Italian design experience through the Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool of Architecture & Design, a partnership with Domus Academy in Milan. The San Diego program offers three immersive hands-on degrees on its California-based campus that also bring in world-renowned faculty from Milan and focus on human-centric design philosophy and project-based learning through real life projects and clients.

"Design in Italy has always been a strategic asset for companies, and the success of 'Made in Italy' was due to the magic encounter between visionary entrepreneurs and designers and the competency of the best craftsmanship and production technicians," said Elena Pacenti, Director of the Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool. "The entrepreneurs of the furniture and goods industries understood that they could differentiate their brands and products by design. The dialogue between entrepreneurs and designers gave birth to the famous Italian innovative products. We want to instill this concept of 'design as a mindset' for our students, and give them an international experience so they can be prepared to solve any kind of problem in any field -- from buildings and products, to interiors and graphics."

The new Global Design Degree serves as an extension of both NewSchool and Domus Academy's continued commitment to global design thinking and innovation, encouraging cultural diversity in the classroom.
