"TOHOKU & TOKYO in RIO" Held at Rio 2016 Live Sites, Showing Gratitude to World and Recovery of Tokyo and Tohoku Region

TOKYO, August 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- "TOHOKU & TOKYO in RIO" was held on Thursday, August 18, on the Rio de Janeiro Live Sites stage to emphasize gratitude to the world and the recovery of Tokyo and the Tohoku region, which was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

From Tokyo: We showed the traditional art of "Edo Tobi Kiyari," which has been passed down through generations to the present day from Edo culture. From the Tohoku region: The "Onikenbai" (Iwate Prefecture) and the "Iwaki Jangara Nenbutsu Odori" (Fukushima Prefecture), which are local performing arts performed to purify the land and as a requiem for the souls of the dead. Also, as a sign of the friendship between Japan and Brazil, Megumi Kudo of Salgueiro school in Rio de Janeiro, the only Japanese "passista" dancer in Brazil, and Wadaiko Sho, the Japanese drum team from Brazil, performed.

The event closed with the excitement of a grand finale with all performers showing their gratitude and hope to meet visitors again in four years in Tokyo.
