SEOUL, South Korea, Dec. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- KIPA (Korea Invention Promotion Association), Chairman, Jayeol Gu, announced on December 5th that the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2016, held at COEX in Seoul (Hall A) from December 1st to 4th, has become one of the world's largest international invention fairs, alongside international invention events held in the US, Switzerland and Germany.

Celebrating its 12th anniversary this year, SIIF 2016 is an international event officially sponsored by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and IFIA (International Federation of Inventors' Associations) and successfully displayed a total of 639 inventions from 31 participating countries such as the USA, Germany. This year's event also saw the inclusion of 176 inventions from 120 local (South Korea) companies. Together with the main exhibition, there was the showcase of the International Invention & Business Pavilion with 20 inventions from foreigners living in Korea who wished to attain local patent rights or open up their own business.

The Grand Prize winner of SIIF this year was BSCARE from South Korea, and this award-winning invention is going to be used as an ingrown toe nail retractor. Plasmapp Co., Ltd. from South Korea, Su Shiung Lam from Malaysia, Huang Cong-Hui / Wang Tzu-Yuan / Yu Shang-Ju / Chen Bo-Zhang / Wang Li-Ming / Su Yu-Tang / Liang Chun-Ting / Ding Zi-Hao from Taiwan, and Petai Pongpiachan / Siam Novas Co. Ltd. from Thailand all won the Grand Prize.

This year, especially with the heightened sense of alarm due to the numerous global disasters such as earthquakes, a series of safety related items, such as an Earthquake Flashlight received a great deal of attention and achieved success as prize winners.

The exhibition also offered the participants various opportunities from entering into the open market, technology transfer, access to crowdfunding for business meetings for purchases or investments as well as an opportunity to display their works in an exhibition and as an advertisement.

Junseok Lee, President of KIPA says, "In order to help the participants find their way into the world market, SIIF will give continuous support to them by cooperating closely with related international organizations and the invention groups of each country."
